Revolutionary Game-Changer: Unleashing the Ultimate Action in Call of Duty – Inspired by Dying Light

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's approach to Zombies is already unique, but it could benefit from taking a page out of Dying Light's book to further revolutionize the formula

Highlights

The Zombie mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 offers an open world experience, featuring expansive areas and objectives rather than the traditional round-based gameplay found in Outbreak.

The game has the potential to offer a unique experience by giving players the opportunity to assume the role of the infected, a concept inspired by the Dying Light franchise. This feature would introduce exciting gameplay possibilities and allow players to control various special Zombie types such as Mimics, all while pursuing their own set of objectives. Additionally, fallen players would have the ability to respawn as Zombies, following a similar mechanic to Warzone's Zombie Royale mode.

The campaign and standard multiplayer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are set to undergo significant changes, but they pale in comparison to the innovative approach taken by the game's Zombie mode. The upcoming release will introduce a completely transformed version of the Zombies experience, deviating from the original formula. Despite this, Treyarch remains in charge of developing the Zombies mode.

In a first for the Modern Warfare franchise, Zombies will make its debut in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Drawing inspiration from the Outbreak mode featured in Black Ops Cold War, the game will feature expansive open areas with various objectives, diverging from the traditional round-based gameplay of previous Zombies iterations. This new direction presents exciting possibilities, potentially taking cues from the Dying Light franchise, where players can assume the roles of infected characters, introducing a fresh dimension to Zombies gameplay.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Zombies: Becoming the Infected

MW3 Zombies is poised to offer an unparalleled, expansive gaming experience. Notably, rumors suggest that the main map will be the largest in Zombies history, enabling multiple squads to engage in cooperative combat. Drawing inspiration from Warzone, the gameplay mechanics have been enhanced to accommodate both adversarial and cooperative interactions due to the increased player count. An intriguing aspect would be the possibility of actual players assuming the role of the undead.

While Call of Duty has previously ventured into this territory with Turned, an exclusive mode in Black Ops 2 Zombies, it lacked the depth and variation necessary to truly captivate players. Unlike Turned, Dying Light's renowned "Be The Zombie" mode presents a compelling example for MW3 to draw from. This mode grants players the exhilarating opportunity to control the formidable Night Hunter special infected, delivering a unique and enriching gameplay experience.

Dying Light's Be The Zombie mode offered objectives to infected players, such as defending their nests. Similarly, MW3's version provided zombie players with similar objectives to complete before the survivors. Taking inspiration from Left 4 Dead's popular Versus mode, this potential mode could allow infected players to choose their spawn points and assume various roles to effectively disorient and attack survivors. This mode would complement the mini-boss infected types in Modern Warfare 3's Zombies, some of which are recurring enemy types from Cold War. With a range of unique special infected to control, teams of zombies would need to collaborate to track survivors across expansive areas and coordinate their attacks.

If MW3 were to include this feature, it could be introduced in either a dedicated humans vs zombies playlist or by allowing a deceased teammate to return as a powerful infected in standard gameplay. With Warzone's Zombie Royale adopting a similar concept, Treyarch could utilize some of the technology to engage dead players, offering them more than just spectating. It is evident that MW3's Zombies will need to expand upon the Outbreak formula rather than simply increasing the gameplay's scale, and the ability for players to become infected could potentially make this mode one of the most memorable in Call of Duty history.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to release on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
