Diablo 4 enthusiasts have always viewed Strongholds as an exhilarating aspect with vast potential. This has inspired a clever player to devise a brilliant approach for connecting them to the current gameplay loop. Currently, Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons are the focal point of Diablo 4's endgame. While the game has received criticism, the community highly praises the rewarding system. However, many players express their dissatisfaction with the lack of variety. Nightmare Dungeons may offer entertainment for a limited time, but they lack the chaotic unpredictability found in Diablo 3's Greater Rifts.
Numerous fans believe that, on paper, Diablo 4's endgame is satisfactory, but it requires additional engaging content. The community has been vocal about their desire for faster World Boss respawns, improved layouts in Nightmare Dungeons, and the inclusion of repeatable Strongholds. Although it remains uncertain if and when Blizzard will expand on Diablo 4's endgame content structure, the developers have demonstrated a willingness to enhance rewards in Nightmare Dungeons and Helltides, indicating their openness to listening to the player community.
The suggestion, posted by TheCruelHand on the Diablo 4 subreddit, is straightforward: instead of being permanent, Strongholds in Diablo 4 could undergo a weekly reset. In addition to becoming repeatable, Strongholds would change their modifiers similar to how Nightmare Dungeons have different affixes, and even the bosses could be completely randomized. Since clearing a Stronghold doesn't take much time, it wouldn't heavily hinder Diablo 4 players in reclaiming every Stronghold's waypoint.
Another brilliant idea for Diablo 4's Strongholds arose from Kyriolex in the same discussion, suggesting that players could also (if they choose to) tackle Nightmare Strongholds by activating Nightmare Mode through Stronghold Sigils. Although some fans are concerned that the novelty would wear off quickly, having the ability to break up the current endgame monotony would be welcomed. The process of acquiring a perfect gear set for any Diablo 4 class is much longer than it was in Diablo 3, and having to repeatedly run the same content is not enjoyable for anyone.
Turning Strongholds into a weekly grind could have a negative impact by burdening players with a repetitive task every Thursday. An alternative solution would be to allow players to reset the progress on their own. In the upcoming Season of the Malignant in Diablo 4, Malignant Tunnels will be introduced to the game. While they may not be the exact repeatable Strongholds that players have been requesting, they are expected to bring more complexity to Diablo 4's endgame. Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
