In the world of System Shock, recycling holds a significant value, and players can benefit greatly from converting the random objects they come across in Citadel Station into useful materials. As resources are scarce, the Hacker must utilize every item at their disposal to increase their chances of survival. However, the process of recycling may go unnoticed, and players must familiarize themselves with this feature, especially when playing on the highest difficulty. Here are the steps to follow for effective recycling in System Shock.
How to Recycle Items in System Shock
Recycling in the cyberpunk space station can be done in two ways, with the primary method being the use of designated Recycle Stations. These stations, which are easily identifiable with their big labels, can be found on almost every level of the station. To utilize them, simply interact with the central receptacle to access the inventory screen, place the recyclable item in the item box on the left, and exit the menu. To initiate the recycling process, right-click on the green button located on the machine. Once the process is complete, Tri-Credit coins will be produced and will drop out of the coin slot on the right side of the station. It is important to remember to collect these coins every time an item is recycled.
Recycling items in your inventory is another great way to manage space. Simply click on the piece of junk and select the "Vaporize" option from the contextual menu to turn it into a cube of scrap that only takes up one inventory slot. These scraps can then be exchanged for Tri-Credits at Recycle Stations, with 10 scraps earning you a single coin. It's a quick and efficient way to get rid of unwanted items while also earning some extra currency.
Each item in the game has a unique Scrap and Recycle value, which can be viewed by inspecting the inventory screen in true Immersive Sim fashion. When deciding whether to scrap or recycle an item, players should keep in mind the conversion rate mentioned earlier.
Players can use Credits to purchase necessary supplies such as food, ammo, and healing items from vending machines scattered throughout Citadel Station. However, since Credits are scarce, it's important to remember the location of the Recycle Station on each level in case a quick infusion of Credits is needed. Don't hesitate to backtrack to previous levels if necessary.
System Shock is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
