Chris Noth has finally opened up about the allegations of sexual assault made against him by numerous women, addressing the impact on his career and personal life.
Speaking to USA Today on Monday, August 7, the 68-year-old actor acknowledged his betrayal towards his wife and the profound devastation it has caused. Although he stressed that infidelity is not a criminal act, Noth expressed his understanding of the overwhelming public opinion against him.
Two years after several women accused Noth of sexual assault, the actor has made a rare statement. In an article published by The Hollywood Reporter in December 2021, one woman claimed that Noth had assaulted her in 2004 by "raping her from behind." Another woman, known as Lily, alleged that she was assaulted by Noth in his New York City apartment after meeting him in 2015.
Despite being married to Tara Wilson since 2012, Noth denied the allegations in a statement to We. He asserted that the accusations made by individuals he had encountered years or even decades ago were completely false. Noth emphasized that "no always means no" and stated that he did not cross any boundaries, as all encounters were consensual.
Reflecting on the scandal that led to his dismissal from The Equalizer, Noth staunchly maintained his innocence. (Moreover, he had filmed a cameo for the season 1 finale of Max's And Just Like That, but it was subsequently removed following the allegations.)
"It may come across as defensive, but I assure you, I am not. There is no criminal court or trial that I need to partake in to share my side of the story or present witnesses," he stated on Monday. "Furthermore, there are additional outlandish claims that hold no factual basis and are completely absurd."
According to reports, Noth is currently both directing and starring in the play Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco at a theater in Massachusetts. Noth expressed his intention to return to the public eye to provide support for his family.
I refuse to give up and accept that my career is over. While the story about me is scandalous, it is simply not true. I cannot allow myself to give up because of that. I am an actor with other creative aspirations, and I have my children to take care of. I cannot rely solely on my past successes. Yes, I have enough savings to take a break for a year, but I am uncertain about reentering the industry because corporations are afraid. Nonetheless, I must keep going. It is difficult because people are fearful and their fear influences their decisions. Nevertheless, I must persevere because I still have a passion for creativity.
