Remnant 2 has serious balancing issues, especially in co-op multiplayer, that undermine its progression systems.
Gunfire Games may have a strong incentive to address these issues in order to maintain the game's popularity and critical acclaim. The problems related to scaling, specifically regarding enemy health and damage in Remnant 2, have a detrimental effect on the gameplay experience and boss encounters.
According to experienced players, Remnant 2 is plagued with significant balancing issues that significantly hinder its progression systems, especially in co-op multiplayer. Despite its critical acclaim, this highly popular sequel from Gunfire Games is not without its fair share of problems.
However, the good news is that Gunfire Games is highly motivated to address these issues now that it has become clear that Remnant 2 is a resounding success among players. The game's unique blend of Soulslike combat, ranged gameplay, and procedurally generated exploration has secured its place at the top of the Steam charts, with updates and expansion packs already in the works.
However, fans have discovered a major flaw in how Gunfire Games has implemented scaling in Remnant 2. Reddit user BrainExtreme9235 expressed concerns about the various scaling mechanics within the game. Specifically, Remnant 2 scales up the health and damage of enemies based on the combined gear and power level of the player. This has resulted in a situation where upgrading a weapon weakens the rest of the player's loadout unless all gear remains at the same level. This contradicts the game's loot systems and overall gear progression, punishing players for experimenting or not sticking with a specific loadout.
This issue is somewhat manageable for solo players in Remnant 2, as they can purposely keep their gear upgrades at a lower level to maintain balanced enemy scaling. However, this approach diminishes the excitement of finding and improving gear. On the other hand, co-op players face a much larger problem as enemy health and damage are scaled to the host's power level. Although new players joining experienced hosts slightly mitigate the scaling, it is not enough to make a significant impact.
Remnant 2 surpasses its predecessor with an array of quality-of-life enhancements and outperforms its competitors in certain areas. However, if Gunfire Games fails to address the scaling issues, the game risks becoming excessively challenging for full fireteams. Therefore, it is unsurprising that players are eagerly anticipating revisions to the affected systems.
One major drawback of the game's current scaling approach is the potential for exceptionally difficult boss encounters. This imbalance has the potential to overshadow the game's exceptional features, especially given the current progression and upgrade system.
Remnant 2 is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
