Highlights

Remnant 2 improves the player's experience by allowing unlimited stamina outside of combat, eliminating the need to manage stamina while exploring.

The sequel shifts its focus towards providing bosses with distinct gimmicks instead of depending heavily on wave survival, resulting in boss fights that are more immersive and diverse.

Remnant 2 provides an even greater number of secrets to discover and intricate puzzles to solve, elevating the game's replay value and offering players exclusive content as rewards.

The highly anticipated sequel to the classic 'Souslike-with-guns', Remnant: From the Ashes, has finally arrived in the form of Remnant 2. However, the philosophy behind the sequel goes beyond simply adding more content to the game.

The developers at Gunfire Games have made a conscious effort to enhance and rectify the aspects that worked and didn't work in the original game. Now, let's delve into some of the minor yet notable improvements that have been made between Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2.

8 Unlimited Stamina Outside Of Combat

Remnant 2: Groundbreaking Upgrades That Will Blow Your Mind

Firstly, one of the smallest changes with the biggest impact on a player's overall gaming experience is sprinting in Remnant: From the Ashes. In the game, players consistently sprint while exploring various 'Realms', especially as they know they will be revisiting these areas multiple times.

However, a common complaint among players was the need to manage stamina while sprinting to search for loot, even in the absence of enemies. Fortunately, this issue has been completely resolved in Remnant 2. As long as the game does not consider the player to be 'in combat', any actions that consume stamina are now completely free.

7 Focus On Quantity Over Quality With Boss Fights

Remnant 2: Groundbreaking Upgrades That Will Blow Your Mind

While many of the bosses in Remnant: From the Ashes were impressive and numerous, more than half of them could be considered as boss fights resembling wave survival rather than the typical one-on-one battles found in Soulslike games. In fact, some of these fights felt like they consisted of 80 percent dealing with hordes of regular enemies, with only 20 percent dedicated to confronting an actual boss.

In Remnant 2, this still occurs occasionally, but for the most part, it is evident that the developers have invested significant effort into creating bosses with unique gimmicks, rather than relying solely on summoning mobs at specific points. Two early bosses, the Corrupter/Pan Guardian in Yaesha (a nod to their previous game, Chronos: Before the Ashes) and the Labyrinth Sentinel, exemplify this new design approach perfectly.

6 Secrets Are Even More Secretive

Remnant 2: Groundbreaking Upgrades That Will Blow Your Mind

One of the standout features of Remnant: From the Ashes was its extensive replayability. Each Realm in the game would randomly generate a plethora of unique Random Events, ensuring that players would need to reroll their Realms multiple times—sometimes 5-10 or more—to experience everything on offer. And that's not even considering the challenging puzzles players had to solve to uncover hidden items.

In Remnant 2, Gunfire Games has taken this aspect to new heights. There is an abundance of content waiting to be discovered, with even more intricate and rewarding puzzles scattered throughout the game. The secret and unlock method for the Archon Archetype alone surpasses the complexity of most puzzles found in the first game.

5 They Made A Starting Class With A Dog

Remnant 2: Groundbreaking Upgrades That Will Blow Your Mind

Many players in the original Remnant game relied heavily on the Very Good Boy Weapon Mod, which allowed them to constantly have a Stinkhound canine companion from Rhom. Other players opted for a 'summoner' build, utilizing mods such as Seed Caller, Beckon, or Iron Sentinel.

In the sequel game, not only can players always have a dog companion through the Handler Archetype, but there are also opportunities to further specialize in the summoner playstyle. This means that the summon-based approach, which some players had to struggle with in the previous game, is now much more effective and even somewhat overpowered in the sequel.

4 Removing Armor Set Bonuses For More Fashion

Moving on, another change that has garnered widespread praise is the removal of Set Bonuses from Armor in the sequel. In Remnant 2, Armor Sets are still present but each individual piece offers varying defenses, resistances, and weight. The exciting part now is that players are no longer confined to a specific Armor Set in order to pursue a particular build.

Although this revamped system does have its flaws, it does bring Remnant 2 in line with the beloved 'Fashion Souls' ecosystem that many other Soulslike games thrive on.

3 NPC Writing Improvements Overall

Overall, the NPCs in Remnant 2 have undergone significant improvements. They not only have a more noticeable impact on the storyline but also exhibit a greater sense of vitality compared to their counterparts in Remnant: From the Ashes. Furthermore, due to the distinct game style, even subtle changes in the NPCs' appearance to represent aging are easily recognizable to players. When players interact with these NPCs, they are often engaged in various tasks such as operating machinery, tending to the forge, or tending to the garden. Moreover, players can obtain comprehensive updates on the key events from Remnant: From the Ashes simply by conversing with the NPCs in Ward 13 and asking them a range of questions.

2 Player Builds Only Benefit From The New Archetype System

Remnant 2: Groundbreaking Upgrades That Will Blow Your Mind

The Trait system in the first Remnant game was innovative and continues to be a significant aspect of the second game. However, the Archetypes in Remnant 2 provide players with a stronger sense of identity in their chosen build. The inclusion of Dual-Archetype builds, the ability to wear more armor sets, and the introduction of Mutators and other complexities all contribute to the increased depth of builds. In the first game, achieving highly recognizable builds, both visually and functionally, required extensive effort and fine-tuning.

1 Changes To Scrap Farming With Breakable Objects

Remnant 2: Groundbreaking Upgrades That Will Blow Your Mind

The following aspect may be divisive, with some perceiving it negatively while others view it as a significant improvement. In Remnant: From the Ashes, numerous breakable objects are present in each map. Players have the option to roll through, shoot, or smash these objects to collect Scrap. While almost every breakable yields a small amount of Scrap, it is significantly less than what enemies drop or the Gear obtained by the player. Despite this, the issue arises when certain Realms like Rhom have an abundance of breakable objects. Players can simply go through the map, shoot every pot, collect the Scrap, and easily repeat the process by returning to the Worldstone or dying without facing significant consequences. Although the sequel appears to be less generous in terms of distributing Scrap, players still need to grind monsters or bosses to acquire it, rather than relying solely on breaking pots.

Remnant 2 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
