Chelsea and Southampton have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Romeo Lavia, with the deal valued at £58m. The initial payment is set at £53m, with an additional £5m based on performance-related add-ons. Lavia has been granted permission to undergo a medical examination at Chelsea.

There are no expected difficulties regarding personal terms between Chelsea and Lavia.

On Sunday night, Liverpool had reached an agreement with Southampton for Lavia, valued at £60m. However, Lavia has clearly expressed his desire to join Chelsea.

Liverpool have lost the opportunity to sign Moises Caicedo, as the player has chosen to join Chelsea instead. The Blues secured Caicedo's services from Brighton in a record-breaking deal worth £115m. This came after Liverpool had a bid of £111m accepted, only for Caicedo to inform them of his decision to join Chelsea.

As for Chelsea's midfield plans for this transfer window, they were in discussions with Leeds United for the potential signing of Tyler Adams. However, the negotiations collapsed last week due to both parties being unable to come to an agreement.

Southampton had initially stood firm on their £50m price tag for 19-year-old Lavia. Last week, Chelsea put forward an offer of £48m, while Liverpool had their three previous bids rejected earlier this summer.

Lavia still has four years remaining on his Southampton contract, which he signed after leaving Manchester City last year. However, it was widely anticipated that he would depart following Saints' relegation from the Premier League last season.

During Southampton's victory against Sheffield Wednesday in the season opener, the Belgium international did not have an opportunity to play. Furthermore, he was not included in the squad for the Carabao Cup loss against Gillingham on Tuesday or the thrilling 4-4 draw with Norwich on Saturday.
