Method 1: Keep the Sticky Notes App Open at Shutdown
To have Sticky Notes automatically start when you turn on your Windows 11 PC, there are multiple methods you can use that utilize your PC's built-in tools. You won't need to download or install anything extra. One of the easiest ways is to simply keep the app open when you shut down or restart your PC. Windows 11 will remember your preference and launch the app on startup. However, there are other methods available as well, such as adding the app to your "Startup" folder or creating a task in Task Scheduler to automatically launch the app. Let's explore these options.
Method 2: Add Sticky Notes to the Startup Folder
To ensure that Sticky Notes opens every time your computer starts up, there are a few methods you can try. One option is to add the app to your PC's "Startup" folder, which automatically loads all items in the folder upon booting up Windows 11. This way, you won't have to worry about manually opening Sticky Notes each time you turn on your machine.
To do that, first, open a “Run” dialog box by pressing Windows+R. In the box, type the following and press Enter. This will open your “Startup” folder.

Locate your "Startup" folder and then open the "Start" menu to find the Sticky Notes app. It's important to manually search for the app as searching for it won't work.
After you've found the app, simply drag it over to the "Startup" folder to create a shortcut for it in that folder.
The process is simple. Once you create a task, it will run automatically every time you log in to your account. Here's how to do it:
Open the “Start” menu and locate the “Task Scheduler” app to get started. Once you've found it, launch the app and click on “Create Basic Task” located in the right sidebar.
In the “Name” field, enter a descriptive name for your task. This will make it easier to find in the future. For example, we'll name it “Launch Sticky Notes.”
On the next step, simply click on the “Next” button.
Once you’ve reached the “When Do You Want the Task to Start?” section, select “When I Log On.” This will ensure that your app is launched automatically when you log in to your user account on Windows 11.
Select "Next" at the bottom of the screen.
Under the "What Action Do You Want the Task to Perform?" section, select "Start a Program." This will prompt the task to launch Command Prompt, which will then open your Sticky Notes app.

Next, navigate to the next page and locate the “Program/Script” field. Here, enter the path that instructs the task to launch Command Prompt. Please note that you should not include the fragment number or provide any additional explanations. Simply follow the instructions and select “Next” to proceed.
In order to open your Sticky Notes app using Command Prompt, you need to enter a specific argument in the “Add Arguments” field. Simply type in the following command:
/c start shell:appsfolder\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App
The “/c” parameter instructs CMD to run the command and then stop, while the argument itself tells Command Prompt to launch the Sticky Notes app.
Then, at the bottom, click “Next.”
Finish creating your task by clicking “Finish” at the bottom.
And that’s it. Windows 11 will now run this task on each log-on of your account, opening the Sticky Notes app. Enjoy automatic access to your favorite note-taking app!
