Vanderpump Rules' Katie Maloney questions Scheana Shay's choice to spend time with Tom Sandoval, despite his past infidelity towards Ariana Madix
Katie Maloney, a star on Vanderpump Rules, is puzzled by Scheana Shay's decision to spend time with Tom Sandoval even after he betrayed their friend Ariana Madix. During an exclusive interview with We on November 4th, the 36-year-old Katie expressed her confusion regarding Scheana's questionable choices. While walking the red carpet at BravoCon alongside Ariana, 38, Katie said, "'Girl, I love you, but why do you keep making these strange decisions?' It's just odd."
During BravoCon in Las Vegas this weekend, Scheana, 38, and Sandoval were spotted spending time together. The season 11 trailer of Vanderpump Rules clearly shows that unlike her fellow cast members, Scheana is not distancing herself from Sandoval despite his affair ending his long-term relationship with Ariana.
Katie shared that she occasionally talks to Scheana about her position in these situations. "Do you often feel like you're on the wrong side of things?" Katie asked her. Scheana replied with a confirmation. "Mm-hmm," she said. Katie then advised her to correct it, but Scheana hasn't taken action on that yet.
“I do agree,” Ariana acknowledged. “It's rather peculiar and I'm not entirely certain. It appears somewhat... indescribable. I don't feel inclined to dictate someone's actions or impose my opinions on them or—"
"I, on the other hand, would do so," Katie interrupted. "They aren't obliged to heed my advice, but it would be wise to make the sensible choice."
Ariana expressed her perspective, stating that the action in question seems relatively easy to do unless someone wants to spend time with Sandoval. However, she adds that one must be ready for others to find it strange. This scenario unfolds in the Vanderpump Rules season 11 trailer, which premiered during the BravoCon panel on Friday, November 3. The trailer shows Scheana hugging Sandoval, prompting Katie to caution Scheana about potentially jeopardizing her friendship with Ariana.
"Be cautious about your next steps if you choose to befriend him," Katie warns Scheana adamantly.
During an Amazon Live session in July, Scheana disclosed that she had been assigned to Sandoval for a transformative meditation activity during the upcoming season's filming, set to debut on Bravo in January 2024.
"It was extremely uncomfortable," she remarked, although she acknowledged that the interaction made for intriguing television for the audience. "Clearly, I disapprove of what he did to Ariana. We've been friends for a very long time, so people always label me as a flaky person who lacks loyalty. Losing a friendship of that duration has undoubtedly been challenging."
Sandoval has become estranged from his Vanderpump Rules co-stars following the revelation of his affair with former cast member Raquel Leviss in March.
Following the confrontations with her fellow cast members at the season 10 reunion, Raquel, aged 29, enrolled in a treatment facility to address her mental health concerns. She subsequently revealed her decision to not participate in the upcoming season 11 of the show. On the other hand, Sandoval confessed to Us that he contemplated not returning for the new season but eventually resolved to confront the consequences.
"I believe that as time elapsed, whenever life becomes exceptionally difficult, it is imperative to push oneself and embrace challenges," he expressed during an interview with Us at BravoCon on Friday. "It's about enduring what's tough, you know?"
