Despite his close relationships with various members of the royal family throughout his life, the Duke of Westminster's upcoming wedding will not be attended by a large number of royals. Prince William is the only senior royal set to attend Hugh Grosvenor's marriage to Olivia Henson next month, as reported by HELLO! magazine.
William’s eldest son with wife Princess Kate Middleton, 10-year-old Prince George, is also rumored to not be attending despite being the Duke’s godson. The wedding, scheduled for June 7, falls on a school day. This means George will most likely be staying at school instead of participating as a pageboy as originally planned.
William and Kate’s other children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, will also be staying at their school in Windsor on the day of the wedding. In contrast, William, who is 41 years old, will have a role as an usher at the Duke’s wedding, according to The Sunday Times.
William’s wife is unlikely to attend due to her ongoing battle with cancer. Similarly, King Charles III, Grosvenor’s godfather, is also undergoing cancer treatment and is not expected to make an appearance. As a result, Queen Camilla may also choose not to attend.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are also expected to be absent from the ceremony. This is due to the strained relationship between Harry and William, especially since their departure from the royal family in 2020. The situation worsened when Harry, 38, released his controversial memoir in early 2023. While not officially confirmed, it is rumored that Grosvenor is the godfather of Harry and Meghan’s son, Prince Archie.
Kate, who is 42 years old, was upset with Harry for his portrayal of her. According to a source, she believes Harry's actions were terrible and is hurt by the way he has tarnished her reputation. Forgiveness is proving to be a challenge for her.
William, on the other hand, is struggling to see a way for Harry to reconcile with the royal family. A different source shared that he currently has no intention of reaching out to his younger brother. William has accepted the reality that he may have lost his brother, possibly for good.
Harry and Meghan, aged 42, showed their support for Kate when she shared her cancer diagnosis. In a statement to Us in March, they expressed their well wishes for Kate's health and healing, hoping that she and her family can have privacy and peace during this time.
Earlier in the same month, Kate talked about how a planned procedure led to a concerning discovery about her health. She mentioned in a video on social media that she had undergone major abdominal surgery in London in January. Initially, it was believed that her condition was not cancerous. However, tests conducted after the surgery revealed the presence of cancer.
Kate described the news as a big surprise, mentioning that she and William want to handle it privately for their family's sake.
She shared, "It has been a process. I needed time to recover from surgery before beginning treatment. But the most important thing was explaining everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that they could understand and reassuring them that I will be okay."
