Prince William Pours Beers With Rob McElhenney While Celebrating Welsh Holiday at Wrexham Pub
Prince William, the Prince of Wales, and co-chairman of Wrexham AFC, Rob McElhenney, were photographed pouring drinks behind the bar during their visit to The Turf Pub.
Rob McElhenney is excited to welcome another royal family member to Wrexham.
Prince William recently visited Wrexham, Wales to celebrate St. David’s Day on Friday, March 1. During his visit, the 41-year-old prince joined the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor, McElhenney, 46, at The Turf pub. Together, they pulled a pint of beer and took a shot with the bar’s owner, Wayne Jones. (St. David is the patron saint of Wales.)
Jones and his bar, The Turf, have become a local Welsh landmark, featured in FX's Welcome to Wrexham docuseries. The show follows McElhenney and Reynolds as they buy Wrexham's football club and revamp the organization. Both actors have become familiar faces in Wrexham, which explains the recent celebration with the Prince of Wales. (Reynolds was not present for St. David's Day.)
After their visit to The Turf, McElhenney brought William to the newly renovated Wrexham Racecourse Ground stadium. There, the Prince of Wales received his own Wrexham team jersey and met with Wrexham CEO Fleur Robinson and Wrexham Executive Director Humphrey Ker. The Prince of Wales also posed for photos with some Wrexham players during the visit.
It looked like the whole day was captured on camera for Welcome to Wrexham. Some photos from the day even showed film cameras in the background. (Welcome to Wrexham season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, April 18.)
Prince William Pours Beers With Rob McElhenney While Celebrating Welsh Holiday at Wrexham Pub
Rob McElhenney and Prince William, who is also the Prince of Wales, were spotted enjoying a drink together at The Turf Pub. McElhenney, alongside his business partner Ryan Reynolds, bought the Wrexham Football Club in 2020 with the aim of promoting the team from the National League to the English Football League. Their hard work paid off in April 2023 when the team was successfully promoted to the EFL after a 15-year wait.
Before William visited Wrexham, his father King Charles III had also visited the small Welsh mining town.
During the Welcome to Wrexham season 2 premiere in September 2023, Reynolds mentioned, "The King of England reached out. We attended a monarchy boot camp. It felt like being in the military, except you always had to keep your pinky up."
In another part of the episode, Reynolds and McElhenney encountered The King, who joked about the always sunny weather in Philadelphia.
William showed up at the Wrexham Racecourse shortly after having to miss the memorial service for King Constantine of Greece due to Princess Kate Middleton's recent abdominal surgery.
Unfortunately, the Prince of Wales will not be able to attend the King Constantine Memorial Service this morning due to a personal matter. Kensington Palace informed us of this on Tuesday, but did not provide any further details.
