Prince Harry's Emotionally Charged Homecoming on Queen Elizabeth II's Memorial Anniversary

Prince Harry's poignant return to the UK coincides with the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's passing, as he pays a heartfelt visit to her final resting place

Prince Harry recently paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, his late grandmother, during his visit to the U.K. However, he did not stay to see his other relatives. According to an exclusive source in the latest issue of We, "Harry and the queen were always very close, so it meant a lot to him to visit her burial site and pay his respects. Despite living in the States now, the U.K. will always hold a special place in his heart, so it was a truly meaningful experience for him to be able to attend."

Harry, aged 38, had an incredibly significant experience when he visited St. George's Chapel on Friday, September 8, as per an insider. The prince chose to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II by paying homage to her final resting place. Just the day before, he had come to town to attend the 2023 WellChild Awards.

Referring to Princess Diana's death in August 1997, the source mentions that even though a year has passed since Elizabeth's passing, Prince Harry can't help but acknowledge that their anniversaries of death are close to each other.

The princess, who had Prince William and Harry with her ex-husband King Charles III, tragically passed away at the age of 36 in a car accident in Paris. On the other hand, Elizabeth, the late monarch, died in September 2022 at the age of 96. She had celebrated her 70th year on the throne in June.

According to a second source, Harry decided to visit St. George's Chapel alone, explaining that it was something he needed to do on his own. Meanwhile, Meghan Markle stayed behind with the children and helped with last-minute preparations for the Invictus Games.

Harry made his U.K. trip solely focused on his professional duties prior to heading to Düsseldorf, Germany on September 9 for the commencement of the Invictus Games. In paying tribute to his grandmother, Harry deliberately chose not to meet with his father or brother. This choice was influenced by the strained relationship between Harry, Charles, and William, which intensified after Harry's move to the U.S. in 2020 alongside Meghan, and their decision to step down as senior royals. The tension escalated further after Harry's candid publication, Spare, in January, where he criticized The Firm and his family members.

Thank You!

Harry, one of the cofounders of the prestigious international sporting event dedicated to wounded, injured, or sick military veterans, will be accompanied by Meghan as they attend the Invictus Games' grand closing ceremony on Saturday, September 16.
