Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly been in touch with his estranged brother, Prince William, amid Princess Kate Middleton’s cancer battle.
According to ITV Royal Editor Chris Ship, Prince Harry reached out to Prince William after finding out about Kate’s cancer. Ship reported that Harry and Meghan have both contacted their brother and sister-in-law, but they did so privately. It is not known whether this communication was through a phone call, video call, or messages of support.
Kate, aged 42, revealed on Friday that she has cancer, without giving specific information. Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, were quick to express their support and good wishes publicly.
In a statement to We, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said, "We hope for Kate and her family to have good health and recovery, and for them to find peace and privacy during this time."
Further information about Harry and Meghan's relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales has not been disclosed.
Harry and William, along with their wives, have had disagreements since 2019, after Harry married Meghan. They officially split their royal households, and in 2020, Harry and Meghan stepped down from their public duties before relocating to California. The strained relationship between the brothers seems to have originated from reports of unkind news articles about Meghan, allegedly planted by William's team.
William, who is 41 years old, has not spoken publicly about the accusations. However, a source had mentioned before that there was little communication between the two brothers. William and Harry are the sons of King Charles III and the late Princess Diana.
According to an insider who spoke exclusively to Us in February 2023, William believes that Harry is not trustworthy, seeing him as someone who puts on a facade. The source claimed that William is focused on moving forward with his life and that there has been a significant breach of trust between the brothers.
Nearly a year later, Kate faced some personal health challenges. She had a successful abdominal surgery in January, but then doctors discovered that she had cancer.
In a video message released on Friday, Kate shared, "My medical team recommended that I undergo preventive chemotherapy, and I am currently in the early stages of this treatment. It was a big surprise for me and William, and we are trying our best to deal with it privately for the sake of our young family."
Kate and William have three children: Prince George, who is 10, Princess Charlotte, who is 8, and Prince Louis, who is 5. They decided to wait to tell the public about Kate's diagnosis until they had spoken to their kids after their school break for Easter.
Kate shared, "I am feeling better every day by focusing on things that will help me heal mentally, physically, and emotionally." She also mentioned that she had told her children the same thing. Kate expressed her gratitude for having William's support during this time, as well as the love and kindness shown by many others.
Kensington Palace has mentioned in a statement that Kate will resume her official duties once she is given the green light by doctors.
The palace shared that Kate is feeling positive and is determined to fully recover. They also mentioned that William will continue to support his wife and family while fulfilling his official responsibilities, just as he has been doing since the beginning of the year.
It has also been reported that Kate is unlikely to attend the royals’ annual Easter service on Sunday, March 31.
