Prince Edward, amidst his brother King Charles III's cancer battle, has been honored with a new title as a member of the prestigious Order of the Thistle. He proudly displayed his regalia for the first time during a public event on Friday, April 12.

At the age of 60, Edward serves as the Commodore in Chief of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. He recently attended the dedication ceremony for a new vessel in Leith, Scotland, donning his ceremonial military uniform with some special new additions. Among them was a silver medal adorned with a gold emblem at the center, a badge reserved for members of the Order of the Thistle.

Edward became a member of the order in March with the help of his older brother Charles, who is 75 years old.

A statement posted on the royal family's X page on March 9 announced that The Duke of Edinburgh would be appointed to the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle in honor of his 60th birthday.

The Order of the Thistle is considered the most prestigious order of chivalry in Scotland. It was established to acknowledge the contributions of 16 Scottish individuals who have served in public office or made significant contributions to the country's development. The current king can choose 16 knights for the order and can also give the title to his family members. Charles, who is 75 years old, has already appointed his wife Queen Camilla, sister Princess Anne, and son Prince William as Royal Knights of the Thistle.

Shortly after Charles and his wife, Duchess Sophie, took on more responsibilities as senior working royals, Charles honored Edward with a special title. Both Charles and William's wife, Princess Kate Middleton, have temporarily scaled back their royal duties due to their battles with cancer. Kate, who is 42 years old, shared her diagnosis in March, following Charles' announcement of his own health struggles.

In a statement released by Buckingham Palace in February, the king expressed his deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and well wishes he has received. He acknowledged the comfort and encouragement that kind thoughts bring to those affected by cancer.

Charles is currently receiving treatment for an undisclosed diagnosis. Due to this, he has reduced his public appearances to mostly audiences at the palaces. However, he did attend the royals' Easter Mattins service in Windsor on March 31.
