Player Alleges 'Torturous' Conditions in Squid Game: The Challenge

A Squid Game: The Challenge contestant alleges that several players suffered collapses and labels the conditions on the set as torturous Threats of a lawsuit arise from the contestants

The Squid Game: The Challenge controversy has escalated with a contestant alleging that multiple players "collapsed" on set and labeled the conditions as "torture." Serving as a spinoff to the Korean Netflix series, Squid Game: The Challenge successfully brings the intense games to life as 456 players compete for a chance to win a $4.56 million prize.

Since the release of Part 1 of the series last week, producers have faced allegations of neglecting player safety. Some contestants have claimed troubling conditions during the 'Red Light, Green Light' game and are threatening to sue Studio Lambert, the co-producer of the series. Another player who participated in the game has now come forward to add to the allegations.

Squid Game: The Challenge player claims people “collapsed” on set

TikTok user @GrandmaGoneWild, also known as Player 358 on Squid Game: The Challenge, has uploaded several videos alleging that contestants were "collapsing left and right" and likening the working conditions to "torture."

During "Red Light, Green Light," the game that included all 456 players, she claims that contestants were forced to film for nine consecutive hours without access to a restroom, food, or water breaks. Despite the game's five-minute time limit to reach the finish line without being eliminated, she reveals that the timer was repeatedly paused to review footage, allow a drone to fly over the area, and rescue players who had collapsed.

"Players were dropping like flies, everywhere, throughout the entire game, requiring medical assistance. This led to multiple stoppages in the game, so the clock wasn't really a clock - it was more of a decoration."

In a separate video that has garnered over four million views, she characterizes the working conditions on set as "torture" and expresses that they were not adequately prepared for the hardships they faced. She further elaborates, describing the below-freezing temperatures, numb feet, blue hands, and continuous shivering experienced by herself and others, stating that she had never endured such prolonged extreme cold in her entire life.

Squid Game: The Challenge contestants threaten lawsuit

Following Player 358's allegations, it has come to light that several contestants from Squid Game: The Challenge have sought legal assistance from a UK firm. They claim to have sustained injuries such as hypothermia and nerve damage during the filming of the 'Red Light, Green Light' game.

The first episode of the Netflix series was filmed at Cardington Studios in Bedford, UK in January. According to Express Solicitors, a UK personal injury law firm, the contestants claim that there were inadequate health and safety standards on set. A statement from the British company revealed that the contestants of Netflix's new show Squid Game: The Challenge have enlisted the help of Daniel Slade, Chief Executive Officer (Legal) at Express Solicitors, to assist them in pursuing compensation for the injuries they sustained during the filming of the show in January.

Slade stated that they have “sent letters of claim on behalf of the contestants injured on the show.”

The creators of Squid Game: The Challenge have addressed allegations about the filming conditions, asserting that they have implemented proper measures. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, producer John Hay emphasized the importance of welfare and safety, affirming that they have taken necessary steps to ensure the well-being of everyone involved.

The specific criticism in question focused on the filming of the game Red Light, Green Light. It was a challenging shoot on a cold day that took a considerable amount of time. However, everyone was well-prepared and properly taken care of. We thoroughly anticipated and rigorously tested everything ahead of time, ensuring that we took all necessary precautions.

Editor's P/S

As a passionate fan of the original Squid Game series, I am deeply troubled by the allegations made by contestants on Squid Game: The Challenge. The claims of torturous conditions and negligence towards player safety are extremely concerning and should be thoroughly investigated.

The well-being of the contestants should always be a top priority in any production, and it is disheartening to hear that they may have been subjected to such treatment. The allegations of inadequate health and safety standards, lack of access to basic necessities, and prolonged exposure to extreme cold are particularly disturbing.

It is crucial that the producers and organizers of the show take immediate action to address these allegations and ensure that appropriate measures are in place to safeguard the physical and mental well-being of all participants in future productions. The safety of the contestants should never be compromised for the sake of entertainment.
