Play Your Way: Xbox Goes All Out for Pride Month

Celebrate Pride Month with a free Xbox game featuring a trans protagonist Play on consoles and PC all June long and immerse yourself in a powerful story that highlights the LGBTQ+ community Don't miss out on this opportunity to support inclusivity in gaming

Tell Me Why, a narrative adventure game with a trans protagonist named Tyler Ronin, will once again be available for free to Xbox and PC gamers for the entirety of June, marking its third year in a row. Studios are recognizing Pride Month in various ways, such as Overwatch 2's in-game event featuring a Pride parade and Disney Dreamlight Valley offering Pride t-shirts to players. Developed by Don't Nod, the creators of the popular Life is Strange franchise, Tell Me Why is an episodic narrative-driven adventure game that explores Tyler and his sister Alyson's tumultuous relationship as they process childhood trauma through telepathy in a snowy Alaskan fishing town. Despite mixed reviews upon its 2020 release, Tell Me Why was significant for featuring a trans lead character portrayed by trans voice actor August Aiden Black, and Don't Nod worked closely with GLAAD during development to ensure a respectful portrayal of Tyler's story. The game went on to win the Games For Impact award at The Game Awards 2020.

In celebration of Pride Month, Tell Me Why, the award-winning episodic adventure game, will be available for free on Xbox and PC throughout the entire month of June. This marks the third consecutive year that the game has been made available for free during Pride Month, solidifying its role as a beacon of LGBTQ+ Pride in the Xbox community.

To further support the LGBTQ+ community, the tweet suggests donating money to trans creators and local charities. Links to the game on Xbox and Steam are also provided for easy access. While a sequel to Tyler and Alyson's story is unlikely, Don't Nod may use the Tell Me Why name to tell new stories featuring LGBTQ+ characters, much like how Life is Strange 2 and True Colors introduce new settings and characters.

Fans of Don't Nod's adventure games will have to wait a little longer for any news on potential Life is Strange or Tell Me Why releases, given the upcoming launch of Don't Nod's own Harmony: The Fall of Reverie and the larger-scale Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden this year. However, in the meantime, fans can enjoy Tell Me Why for free throughout June in celebration of Pride on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
