How to Get the Sun-Speckled Terrace Blue Onion Out of the Water

In Pikmin 4, just like in previous games, Onions have a crucial role to play. There are two types of onions in the game: colored onions and Flarlic. Colored onions enable players to cultivate and collect new varieties of Pikmin, with each onion's color determining the type of Pikmin that will be unlocked. On the other hand, Flarlic is utilized to expand the maximum limit of Pikmin that can be utilized simultaneously by players.

Within the first stage of the game, there are four onions, two of which are colored. Acquiring the Yellow Onion is relatively straightforward, but obtaining the Blue Onion in Sun-Speckled Terrace can pose a greater challenge, especially for those aiming to unlock it before exploring any of the game's other primary stages. However, with careful planning, it is certainly possible to retrieve the Blue Onion, even if it becomes trapped in the nearby water.

How to Get the Blue Onion in Sun-Speckled Terrace

To obtain the Blue Onion in Sun-Speckled Terrace, players will require a total of 30 Ice Pikmin. These icy creatures can be discovered within the Sublevels below the region: 10 can be found in the Last Frost Cavern, 20 in the depths of Hectic Hollows, and a further 25 in Aquiferous Summit. It is crucial for players to carefully protect these Pikmin, as there will be no opportunity to acquire an Ice Onion for quite some time. Consequently, if any of the Ice Pikmin perish, it will become exceedingly challenging, if not practically impossible, to attain the Blue Onion in the preliminary stage of Pikmin 4 and unlock the Blue Pikmin promptly. Therefore, players should not hesitate to rewind time should they happen to lose any of their precious Ice Pikmin.

In addition to obtaining 30 Ice Pikmin, players must also gather enough Flarlic to raise their maximum Pikmin count to at least 40. It would be more beneficial to have 50 Pikmin; however, if players enhance Oatchi's Buff skill to carry the weight of ten Pikmin, they can acquire the Sun-Speckled Terrace Blue Onion with just 40 Pikmin. Additionally, the rescue of Russ the scientist from the Last Frost Cavern triggers a growth spurt in Oatchi. Subsequently, players will have the ability to ride him throughout their journey.

Assuming all conditions mentioned earlier have been fulfilled, players should proceed towards the expansive pond located south of the vicinity. They need to toss 30 Ice Pikmin into the water to freeze it effectively. Subsequently, players should direct their remaining Pikmin towards the incomplete climbing wall on their left and patiently await their return with the necessary raw materials essential for concluding the construction. Once the construction is finalized, they can ascend the wall, conquer the Fiery Blowhog, and dispatch their Pikmin to unearth the Blue Onion. If players possess the capability to utilize 50 or more Pikmin simultaneously, they can effortlessly assign 20 Pikmin to transport the Blue Onion back to their base. However, those with only 40 Pikmin will require additional efforts to accomplish the same.

To obtain the Blue Onion with only 40 Pikmin, players must venture onto the ice and use the whistle to summon the Ice Pikmin. Time is limited, so they must quickly guide the Ice Pikmin to the climbing wall. If they manage to reach it in time, the Ice Pikmin can carry the Blue Onion. However, they can't transport it through water, so they will become stuck on the ledge near the pond's edge. Fortunately, this issue poses no problem.

Once the Blue Onion is positioned on the lowest ledge, players have the ability to refreeze the pond utilizing their Ice Pikmin, and subsequently, they can ride Oatchi over to the ledge. By pressing the Y button while riding Oatchi, players can effortlessly leap up onto the ledge. Upon reaching the ledge, they can then dismount Oatchi and proceed to have him transport the Blue Onion back to base. If Oatchi possesses enough strength to carry 20 Pikmin, he can accomplish the task alone. Alternatively, if he can only handle a maximum of ten Pikmin, players can enlist the support of their additional ten Pikmin to assist. Regardless of the approach, players will successfully acquire their Blue Onion, allowing them to gain access to Blue Pikmin at a much earlier stage than anticipated.

How to Get the Sun-Speckled Terrace Blue Onion Out of the Water

The freezing of water is slightly delayed when the player recalls their Ice Pikmin, which can result in the Blue Onion becoming stuck in the water. If the water is refrozen after this occurs, it will trap the Blue Onion, making it appear impossible to retrieve without the assistance of Blue Pikmin. Players can choose to wait until they have obtained the Blue Onion from Serene Shores and then return, but there is still a way to retrieve the Sun-Speckled Terrace Blue Onion even if it falls into the water. However, this alternative method involves engaging in a small act of animal cruelty.

After unlocking the ability to ride Oatchi, players can take him into any pool of water. There, a cutscene will play in which Oatchi faces the danger of drowning. Two in-game days following this cutscene, Oatchi will acquire the Doggy Paddle skill, which allows him to survive in water.

Once players have gained access to this skill, they have two options. They can use Oatchi's charge ability to push the Blue Onion back to shore, after which they can pick it up using regular Pikmin once it reaches dry land. Alternatively, they can upgrade Oatchi's Doggy Paddle skill, enabling him to carry items while swimming. Regardless of their choice, players will successfully retrieve the Blue Onion from the water and unlock Blue Pikmin without having to leave the initial stage.
