Sophie Thatcher, star of The Book of Boba Fett and Yellowjackets, has recently shared that her science fiction film, Prospect, almost received a sequel series. The 2018 movie follows Thatcher's character, Cee, and her father, Damon (Jay Duplass), as they venture to a treacherous moon to mine for precious gems. Along the way, they encounter Pedro Pascal's character, Ezra, a rival prospector. After Damon's untimely death, Cee forms an alliance with Ezra as they attempt to escape the moon, despite his severe injuries.

Thatcher recently discussed the ending of Prospect in an interview with Inverse while promoting her upcoming film, The Boogeyman. She revealed that the film's creators, Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell, had initially planned a possible sequel due to the ambiguity of the ending. Although the film did not gain much attention upon its release in 2018, it became a cult favorite after streaming on Netflix in 2020. Thatcher shared that before the COVID-19 pandemic, Earl and Caldwell had discussed the possibility of creating a TV show based on the film and featuring an older version of Cee, a character played by Thatcher. When asked about the idea, Thatcher expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "I love all of them so much I would be so down for that."

Thatcher commended the Prospect production team and credited her experience working with Pascal as one of her most rewarding early experiences in Hollywood. "It was honestly the best first experience I could have had and set the bar really high for me," Thatcher expressed. "I aspire to do more movies that are passion projects and involve a team that is as dedicated to creating a great film as those on the Prospect set. Despite the smaller budget and potential pay disparities, everyone was committed to the project and understood its significance." Thatcher also praised her co-star Pascal, stating, "I learned so much just from observing him."

Although Prospect is currently only available to stream on Amazon, the film has garnered renewed attention in light of both Pascal and Thatcher's subsequent successes. Pascal has become a highly sought-after franchise actor, starring in HBO's The Last of Us as Joel, a survivor who helps transport a young girl across the country while facing the threat of zombie-like creatures. Thatcher, on the other hand, is set to star in the forthcoming Stephen King adaptation, The Boogeyman, as well as Showtime's Yellowjackets, which concludes its second season this week. In Yellowjackets, Thatcher portrays Nat, one of several teenage girls who survive a plane crash and are forced to resort to cannibalism in order to survive.

With standout performances from Pascal and Thatcher in the horror and sci-fi genres, it's no surprise that a potential return to the storyline of Prospect would be met with excitement from fans of The Last of Us and Yellowjackets. Both series have proven to be major draws for their respective platforms, Max and Showtime.
