Paul Mescal is sharing his dating deal-breaker during a recent interview with Vanity Fair. The 27-year-old actor asked his All of Us Strangers costar Andrew Scott what would be a red flag for him if he was on a date at a restaurant.
Following Scott's guess that Mescal's red flag is "being rude to the wait staff," the actor, 47, confirmed and elaborated by saying it's "someone who doesn't look at a waiter, specifically." Mescal emphasized that it's still a red flag if a person acknowledges the waiter, "But they're like, 'Thank you so much,' but they don't make eye contact."
Mescal is currently venturing into the world of dating, despite not being single in the past. He was last tied to singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers from 2020 until rumors of their split surfaced in December 2022. Mescal appeared to confirm their breakup two months later.
In February, Mescal addressed the split, stating, "Maybe at some point but just not now. It's just difficult territory. Yeah. ... It's been a f—king wild year. Many ups and downs," during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
A week earlier, he confessed to Vanity Fair that he was "really angry and upset" about the rumors regarding his relationship with the 29-year-old Bridgers.
"I definitely feel the urge to address the status of my relationship— that never goes away," he confessed, admitting that it didn't seem "wise" to do so. "The temptation is still there to say, 'Shut up. This is my life. This is what's happening. Or this is what's not happening.'"
The couple officially made their relationship public in November 2021 when they appeared together at their first event. However, Mescal and Bridgers first connected in May 2020 through social media. Bridgers wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after finishing Normal People, "Now I'm sad and horny oh wait," to which Mescal replied, "I'm officially dead." The singer then told him, "Nooo don't die, you're so talented aha."

Months later, Mescal appeared in Bridger's "Savior Complex" music video, giving credit to the actor for the idea.
"He brought it up. He said, 'I'm a fan of yours, let's create something cool,'" she shared with British Vogue in December 2020. "He mentioned the Rolling Stones video he did for 'Scarlet,' and then I mentioned it to Phoebe [Waller-Bridge] and she said, 'Yeah, it's too fitting not to do it, considering I recommended you watch Normal People and now you two are friends.'"
