Palworld, the multiplayer survival game known for its adorable creatures wielding guns, is set to release soon and will debut on Game Pass for both consoles and PC.
The game will launch on January 19 for Xbox consoles, Game Pass, and PC via Steam, as revealed in a new trailer. Palworld supports up to four players playing together and up to 32 players per server. Developer Pocketpair has also indicated that future updates will expand the game's server size and introduce PvP, a feature not available at launch, as stated on the game's Steam page.
The Early Access version of Palworld will include the ability for players to collect over 100 types of creatures known as Pals, and utilize them in various ways. According to the game's Steam page, there are no labor laws for Pals, allowing them to be used for building structures, generating power, farming, and running factories to enhance the player's comfort. Additionally, the game's Steam page states that Pals can be placed in factories to work indefinitely as long as they are fed, with the grim caveat that they will continue working until they perish.
When players are not enslaving or selling their Pals, they can use them to explore the game's open world and navigate dangerous dungeons. Pals may be sacrificed if enemies are too difficult. They are also essential for survival in harsh environments with scarce food and supplies, and players may have to make tough choices to survive, including, reportedly, "eating your own Pals when the time comes."
During Early Access, Pocketpair plans to add more content such as new Pals, dungeons, and buildings for players to craft. They will also consider player feedback for introducing new systems or ideas not included at launch. The price of Palworld may increase after the Early Access period. Pocketpair has not provided a specific time period for how long Palworld will be in Early Access, but they state on the game's Steam page that Early Access could be extended or shortened depending on the state of the game.
Editor's P/S
As a hard fan of the Pokemon series, I have mixed feelings about Palworld. On the one hand, I am excited about the prospect of a new game that offers a similar creature-collecting and battling experience. The fact that Palworld will be available on Game Pass for both consoles and PC is also a major plus, as it will make the game more accessible to a wider audience.
On the other hand, I am concerned about some of the darker aspects of Palworld, such as the ability to enslave, sell, and even eat your Pals. While I understand that these elements may be intended to add a sense of realism and survival to the game, I find them to be unnecessarily cruel and disturbing. I hope that Pocketpair will reconsider these aspects of the game and make changes to make them more palatable to a wider audience.
Overall, I am cautiously optimistic about Palworld. I believe it has the potential to be a great game, but I hope that Pocketpair will address some of the concerns I have raised before the game's full release.
