Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton have reportedly distanced themselves from former friend Rose Hanbury since rumors of an affair surfaced in 2019, according to royal expert Omid Scobie’s new book. The allegations of William’s infidelity with Hanbury, who is married to David Cholmondeley, the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, were never directly addressed by any of the parties involved.

The alleged scandal resurfaced following the release of Endgame on Tuesday, November 28. However, Scobie remains unconvinced about the veracity of the speculation and is more interested in delving deeper into the strained friendship among the trio. "I made a point in the book to concentrate on the allegations against William and Kate, as well as their rift with Rose Hanbury," Scobie stated in an Entertainment Tonight interview published on Thursday, November 30. "Due to legal constraints, there are many aspects that I couldn't explore."

He emphasized the importance of addressing the rumor, even if it was just a rumor, and stated that there is no evidence to support it. Scobie also noted that because William and Kate have not publicly addressed the rumors, they will probably continue to persist. He reiterated that there is no truth to the rumors.

Hanbury had been a close friend of William and Kate for many years, even attending their wedding in 2011. Two years after rumors of William's infidelity emerged, Hanbury was seen at Prince Philip's memorial service in 2021. Hanbury's son, Lord Oliver, also had a role as a page of honor at the coronation of William's father, King Charles III, in May. At the coronation, Oliver joined Prince George as one of the four pages. When the rumors about William's infidelity surfaced, an exclusive source revealed to We in June 2019 that the speculation had motivated William and Kate to focus on improving their marriage.

The couple was forced to sit back and reevaluate their relationship, a realization they wished they had come to sooner. They share three children, sons Prince George, 10, and Prince Louis, 5, and daughter Princess Charlotte, 8.

During his research for Endgame, Scobie also interviewed some of William's close friends who confirmed that the challenges they faced ultimately strengthened their bond. According to Scobie's book, William and Kate have a true "partnership" and are committed for a lifetime.

Prior to the book's debut, a second insider exclusively informed Us that the married pair are "even more harmonized than before," expressing, "They value their strong bond with each other. Family is their top priority, now and always."

According to the source, William and Kate have relied on each other during difficult times, such as the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and their distancing from his brother, Prince Harry. "William confides in anyone who will listen that he couldn't manage without Kate, and she reciprocates the sentiment," the insider stated.
