After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Olivia Munn is finding comfort and support from her boyfriend John Mulaney.
A source close to the couple shared with We that John has been a significant source of strength for Olivia during this challenging time. The source also mentioned that their 2-year-old son, Malcolm, has been a source of courage and strength for Munn, giving her the motivation to keep fighting and conquer the illness.
Mulaney, who is 41 years old, has been in a relationship with Munn since early 2021, following his separation from his ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler. Their divorce was officially completed in January 2022, just two months after the arrival of their son Malcolm in November 2021.
Munn shared on her Instagram on Wednesday, March 13, that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. According to a source, she sees this as a chance to help educate others about the disease.
A second insider mentioned that Munn sharing her story is crucial in raising awareness and encouraging more women to get tested. Munn revealed on social media that she has undergone four surgeries, expressing that she has only cried twice throughout the process. She stated that she has been focused on staying clearheaded and has set aside any emotions that could hinder her concentration.

The actress decided to be proactive about her health in February 2023 by taking a genetic test that screens for 90 different cancer genes. She was relieved to find out that she tested negative for all, including the well-known breast cancer gene BRCA. Her sister Sara also tested negative, and they celebrated over the phone. Additionally, she had a normal mammogram that winter.
However, two months later, Munn received the devastating news of her breast cancer diagnosis. Initially, she kept the results private to navigate through the difficult emotions. Eventually, she revealed that she underwent a double mastectomy. The sudden shift from feeling fine one day to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery was a challenging experience for her.
In a heartfelt message, Munn expressed her gratitude towards the medical staff who took care of her and her loved ones.
She thanked her partner John for his unwavering support, especially for spending nights researching about her treatments and medications, as well as the potential side effects and recovery process. John was there before each surgery and by her side when she woke up, always ensuring that framed photos of their son Malcolm were the first thing she saw upon opening her eyes.
Mulaney expressed his gratitude by saying, "Thank you for fighting so hard to be here for us. Malc and I adore you. ❤️."
One day later, Munn responded to the overwhelming public support in a heartfelt Instagram Story message. She wrote on Thursday, March 14, "I’m really grateful for all the love and support I’ve received about my diagnosis that I shared yesterday. Reading your stories and comments has really meant a lot to me and I just wanted to express my gratitude for all of it."
