Nickmercs' Twitter Following Skyrockets Amidst Major Controversy

NICKMERCS gains Twitter followers following Call of Duty skin controversy

Despite the recent controversy surrounding NICKMERCS, his Twitter following has been on the rise. This increase in popularity is not limited to social media, as many fans are still showing support for him despite the removal of his Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 operator bundle from the in-game store. While NICKMERCS is known for streaming a variety of shooters on Twitch and YouTube, he has recently been focusing on the popular Call of Duty: Warzone games. The NICKMERCS bundle was introduced to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 on May 31, but was swiftly removed by Activision after a tweet about a school protest garnered negative attention during Pride Month on June 7.

After issuing a clarification for his controversial tweet, NICKMERCS has experienced both setbacks and gains in his content creation career. While losing his Call of Duty operator bundle was a blow, he has managed to gain over 51,000 Twitter followers since Thursday. This surge in followers could be attributed to the original statement and Activision's response being posted on the social media platform where he already had a strong following of over 2.1 million.

In addition to his boosted Twitter following, NICKMERCS has also gained 20,000 YouTube subscribers in the last 30 days - a significant increase from his usual count of 10,000 or less. Notably, he has received support from fellow content creators Dr Disrespect and TimTheTatman, who have both taken action against Call of Duty in solidarity with NICKMERCS. However, despite his growing popularity on social media, his Twitch following has not seen a significant uptick, which could suggest that fewer supporters use the Amazon streaming service where he regularly streams.

It's possible that NICKMERCS, who is known to earn a portion of the profits from skins sales in games like Fortnite, may have experienced a financial setback due to Call of Duty's decision to remove his operator bundle. While this move has undoubtedly given him a boost on social media, Activision has yet to clarify if his bundle's removal is a permanent measure or just temporary for the month of June. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently playable on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
