Nicholas Hoult has officially been cast as Lex Luthor in the upcoming superhero movie Superman Legacy, directed by James Gunn. Gunn confirmed the news on Instagram, following weeks of speculation. He shared a photo of himself and Hoult, stating that they recently had dinner to discuss how they can create a Lex Luthor that is unlike any previous portrayal. Gunn emphasized that the decision was finalized just a couple of days ago.
Hoult, known for his role in the X-Men series as Hank/Beast, has joined a cast that features David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The writer and director for the project is Gunn.
There were reports that Hoult was also being considered for the role of Superman before Corenswet was ultimately chosen. Past actors who have portrayed Lex Luthor include Jesse Eisenberg, Kevin Spacey, and Giancarlo Esposito, among others.
The plot of Superman Legacy remains a mystery, but the film is set to debut on July 11, 2025. The next highly anticipated DC movie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, will hit theaters later this month. As for 2024, an exciting DC film to look forward to is the Joker sequel featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.

As a huge fan of the Superman franchise, I am thrilled to hear that Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Lex Luthor in the upcoming movie, Superman Legacy. Hoult is an incredibly talented actor, and I believe he will bring a unique and unforgettable interpretation to this iconic villain. I can't wait to see him face off against Superman on the big screen!
I am also excited about the fact that James Gunn is directing Superman Legacy. Gunn has a proven track record of success with superhero movies, and I am confident that he will bring a fresh and exciting vision to the Superman franchise. I am particularly interested to see how Gunn will develop the relationship between Superman and Lex Luthor, as it is one of the most iconic rivalries in comic book history.
