A court document filed Wednesday accuses New York City Mayor Eric Adams of a 1993 sexual assault, just as a New York law related to the case is set to expire this week. According to the summons filed in New York County Supreme Court, the plaintiff alleges that they were sexually assaulted by Adams while they both worked for the City of New York in 1993.

The filing alleges sexual assault, battery and employment discrimination, retaliation, hostile work environment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

A City Hall spokesperson told CNN on Thursday, "The mayor is not familiar with this individual. If they have ever met, he does not remember. However, he would never engage in any physical harm towards another person and strongly denies any such allegation."

The three-page summons names the City of New York, the New York Police Departments Transit Bureau, and the New York City Police Department Guardians Association as defendants. No additional information was provided, and a formal complaint has not been submitted yet. The allegations are being made under New York's Adult Survivors Act, which is scheduled to expire after Thanksgiving.

The law, signed in May 2022, allowed adult survivors of sexual offenses to sue their alleged abusers within a one-year lookback window, even if the statute of limitations on their claims had expired. This provision aims to provide victims of sexual abuse, who often take years to speak publicly about their traumas, with the opportunity to seek justice in court.

The summons states that the claims being brought forward allege deliberate and careless actions and oversights resulting in physical, psychological, and other injuries from behavior that could be considered sexual offenses. According to the filing, the plaintiff is seeking a minimum of $5 million.

The citys legal department and the NYPD referred CNN to City Hall.

CNN has reached out to the Guardians Association for comment.
