Trusted leakers are suggesting that a new map could be on the horizon for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 in season 4. Released in November 2022, Warzone 2 is the popular FPS series' first foray into the free-to-play battle royale genre, following in the footsteps of titles like PUBG and Fortnite. Currently, there are two primary maps available to players: Al Mazrah, the capital city of the fictional West Asian country United Republic of Adal, which serves as the setting for Ground War and Special Ops game modes, and Ashika Island, a small island chain in the Asian Pacific designed for Resurgence and DMZ game types.
TaskForceLeak, a reputable Call of Duty leaker, disclosed in April that the next Warzone 2 map would be located in the Netherlands, specifically in an area called Vondel that is likely inspired by Amsterdam's Vondelpark and named after 17th-century Dutch poet Joost van den Vondel. A leaked image of the map later surfaced featuring an urban setting with a windmill near a river that some fans believe resembles Amsterdam. Recently, Call of Duty leaker CharlieINTEL confirmed the addition of Vondel to Warzone 2, coinciding with the conclusion of season 3 which saw the inclusion of NBA star Kevin Durant as an operator.
Vondel, developed by Beenox, is expected to launch with Warzone 2's fourth season on June 14, 2023. Initially, it will support the Resurgence game mode before later adding support for DMZ and Battle Royale. If this is true, it will mark the first time a Warzone game will have two Battle Royale maps in rotation. CharlieINTEL also noted that Vondel is bigger than Ashika Island but smaller than Al Mazrah, which remains the second-largest Battle Royale map in the Call of Duty franchise.
Beenox, a game developer based in Québec, has been involved in the development of several Call of Duty titles, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 dating back to 2015 and the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 remake. The company has recently released its second map since Rebirth Island for the first version of Warzone. Beenox is also currently working on Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, which is expected to hit the market in 2023. Warzone 2 was initially popular, but it experienced a significant drop in player count in the following months. Whether Season 4 can reignite interest in the game remains to be seen. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
