Jason Antoon recently discussed his character, Ernie Malik, on NCIS: Hawai’i and his hopes for the character if the show is renewed for a fourth season. Antoon, who has portrayed Ernie since the show premiered in 2021, shared that he appreciates how his character serves as a supportive figure like a brother or father to Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami) and Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson).

Antoon, 52, playfully teased about Ernie's intentions for the next season, suggesting that he may want the characters to get married. Despite no confirmation from the writers, that's Antoon's prediction.

The actor shared that he has experience officiating weddings in real life and would be happy to do it on TV as well.

Antoon predicted that Ernie would come up with a funny idea to officiate Lucy and Kate's wedding. Lucy and Kate began dating in season 1 of the show, briefly broke up in season 2, and then got back together later in the same season.

In a May 2023 interview with Distractify, Al-Bustami compared Lucy and Kate's relationship to a "teacup ride" that spins around. She mentioned that after the first two seasons of the drama, season 3 helped the couple stop the ride and become settled.

For fans to witness a Lucy and Kate wedding and see their romance progress further, the series would have to return for a fourth season.

While NCIS has already been renewed for season 22, NCIS: Hawai’i is still awaiting official confirmation from CBS for season 4. On the bright side, NCIS: Sydney was renewed for season 2 and a new NCIS prequel called NCIS: Origins received a full-season order. Additionally, a spinoff featuring NCIS’s Tony and Ziva has been approved by Paramount+.

Antoon remains hopeful that the status of NCIS: Hawai’i will be updated positively in the near future.

Joining the [NCIS franchise family] in Hawaii has been an amazing experience for me. I feel grateful to be a part of it all, it's like being a part of ohana here. Hopefully, we will get renewed and continue from the Hawaiian side. Fingers crossed.

Antoon mentioned that he and his costars are feeling cautiously optimistic about the future. They would be shocked and saddened if the show didn't continue.

CBS Studios president David Stapf mentioned to Deadline a month ago that NCIS: Hawai’i is different from other shows in the franchise, suggesting a renewal was likely.

Stapf highlighted the uniqueness of the show, with a female lead and the setting in Hawaii. He noted that coming off the success of Hawaii Five-0, the setting resonates well with audiences worldwide.

NCIS: Hawai’i airs on CBS Mondays at 10 p.m. ET.
