The Shadow Clone jutsu sets itself apart from the regular clone jutsu by allowing its user to create an authentic clone, rather than a mere illusion. This means that the clone not only replicates the physical traits and attributes of the user, but also possesses their chakra and most of their abilities. Additionally, the clones share a mental link with the original body, enabling them to transfer newly acquired knowledge and experiences back to the user.
However, this jutsu requires the users to evenly distribute their chakra among the clones. As a result, the more clones they create, the smaller the amount of chakra each one possesses, making them weaker. This limitation leads most shinobi to utilize the Shadow Clone jutsu for reconnaissance missions or as a temporary means to deceive or distract their opponents. However, Naruto defies this convention by finding unique ways to leverage this technique in order to overcome various challenges. Here are some examples.
Accelerate Training
Every clone created through the Shadow Clone jutsu shares newly acquired information and experiences with their fellow clones and the original body. This allows a shinobi to create multiple shadow clones to expedite their training. For example, by creating multiple shadow clones and having them read different books, a user can effectively read multiple books simultaneously. The more clones that are created, the faster the training becomes. As a result, a training that would normally take months to complete can be finished in just a couple of hours.
However, it is important to note that the clones also share the physical and mental fatigue experienced during training. If a regular shinobi pushes themselves to create multiple shadow clones, they will quickly become exhausted and lose consciousness. This is why, for most shinobi, the burden of fatigue and chakra consumption outweighs the benefits of accelerated training time.
However, this is not the case for Naruto. Unlike regular shinobi, Naruto possesses approximately four times more chakra. Furthermore, if he taps into the Nine-Tailed Chakra, his chakra capacity increases by about 100 times. This unique attribute allows Naruto to employ the Shadow Clone jutsu to expedite his training, a technique exclusive to him. Throughout the series, Naruto has utilized this technique numerous times, most notably to perfect the Rasenshuriken jutsu.
Executing Complex Technique
Speaking of Rasenshuriken, it is an original jutsu developed by Naruto himself. This technique combines the power of Rasengan, an A-rank jutsu, with Naruto's wind chakra. Rasengan, in itself, is a technique that manipulates and condenses a significant amount of chakra into a high-speed rotating sphere. However, merging it with a user's chakra nature is an incredibly difficult task to accomplish. Even the fourth Hokage, who created Rasengan, was unable to achieve this feat. Due to its complexity, Rasenshuriken is classified as an extremely intricate S-rank jutsu.
Naruto accomplishes something that his father and mentors cannot because of the Shadow Clone jutsu. Each Shadow Clone possesses a portion of the user's chakra and abilities. Given that creating Rasengan and embedding wind chakra, while maintaining stability, demands an immense amount of focus and computational power beyond one individual's capabilities, Naruto decides to share the burden with his Shadow Clone.
To create the Rasenshuriken, Naruto summons two Shadow Clones. The first clone shapes the Rasengan, the second embeds the wind chakra, and the original body emits and stabilizes the chakra. By dividing the responsibilities among three entities, Naruto successfully executes the S-rank Rasenshuriken.
Storing Senjutsu Chakra
Senjutsu, unlike ninjutsu, derives its power from the chakra found in nature rather than the innate chakra within living beings. This allows senjutsu users to gather and store an abundant and limitless amount of chakra from their surroundings. By harnessing and manipulating this senjutsu, individuals can attain the sage mode, greatly enhancing their physical and ninjutsu capabilities.
However, the process of gathering senjutsu requires complete stillness. Any movement during this process can be fatal. As a result, users must either remain motionless to store the chakra and then engage in battle until the senjutsu is depleted, or seek assistance from summoned creatures to store the chakra on their behalf while they fight, similar to Jiraiya's sage mode.
In contrast to his counterparts, Naruto takes a unique approach by relying on his shadow clones rather than summoned creatures. Prior to entering the battlefield, he prepares multiple shadow clones to store the Senjutsu chakra within them.
When the real Naruto depletes his senjutsu, he can easily dispel one of the shadow clones, instantly transferring the stored senjutsu back to himself. This strategy enables him to prolong his sage mode significantly. In fact, during the Konoha Assault arc, Naruto utilized this technique to remain in sage mode for the majority of his intense battle against Pain.
Due to Naruto's vast chakra reserves and his innovative problem-solving approach, he has been able to explore various unconventional applications of the Shadow Clone jutsu. By consistently devising unique solutions, Naruto has successfully transformed this seemingly ordinary technique into an incredibly versatile and powerful jutsu.
