Mystery Unveiled: Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange Return Set to Amaze Fans Sooner!

Doctor Strange's anticipated comeback in The Multiverse of Madness might be even sooner than fans anticipated, as Benedict Cumberbatch drops hints of an earlier return

Doctor Strange's most recent on-screen appearance was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but actor Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed that another appearance by the sorcerer is on the horizon.

Cumberbatch first portrayed brain-surgeon-turned-wizard Doctor Strange in 2016, winning the hearts of Marvel fans. He continued to captivate audiences in subsequent magical adventures, including appearances in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, 2019's Avengers: Endgame, 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, and 2021's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Even though a post-credits scene in Doctor Strange 2 hinted at his return, fans weren't expecting the doctor to make a comeback so soon.

However, fans may not have to wait too much longer to catch a glimpse of Doctor Strange once again. During a recent interview with the JW3 Speaker Series, Cumberbatch dropped a hint about his involvement in a movie slated to commence filming in 2024. He teasingly mentioned, "There are some Marvel adventures in the works next year." While Cumberbatch has already expressed interest in reprising his role as Doctor Strange in upcoming films, he didn't disclose any specific details about the mysterious 2024 project. This has left fans speculating whether Cumberbatch will be returning for another solo Doctor Strange installment or if he will be part of a larger ensemble.

The post-credits scene in Multiverse of Madness established the possibility of another Doctor Strange film. Charlize Theron was introduced as Clea, a sorceress and Dormammu's niece, who is also known as Strange's love interest in the comics. Clea informs Strange about an incursion that they need to address, hinting at future adventures. Writer Michael Waldron believes this is the perfect time to introduce Clea, as Strange's previous romantic relationship with Christine Palmer has ended. According to Waldron, Strange has grown enough to be ready for a new relationship with Clea.

The project could be either another ensemble film or a brief cameo by Doctor Strange, similar to his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok. Although Doctor Strange's next appearance could be in any upcoming Marvel project, it is most likely that fans will see Cumberbatch's return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Another possibility for Strange's return is in the Disney Plus show Agatha: Coven of Chaos, due to the connection with the Scarlett Witch. More details are yet to be announced, but Cumberbatch assures fans that the wait won't be too long. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness can be streamed on Disney Plus.
