Several crew members were injured during the filming of Eddie Murphy's upcoming movie, The Pickup.
An Amazon MGM studios spokesperson shared with The Associated Press on Tuesday, April 23, that the incident occurred when a sequence did not go as planned. The well-being of the crew and cast is their top priority, and they are currently investigating the cause of the injuries. Safety precautions were carefully reviewed and monitored before and during the shoot to ensure the highest industry standards are met.
The incident occurred on a set outside of Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, April 20. It happened when a truck malfunctioned and collided with a car. According to an unnamed crew member, the accident was described as a "completely freak accident" during a stunt that was not considered complicated or dangerous.
Injuries resulting from the incident varied from bumps and bruises to broken bones. Two crew members were taken to the hospital, with one still hospitalized as of Tuesday. However, both individuals are expected to make a full recovery. Notably, Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson, who are also part of the film, were not present during the accident.
IATSE, the union representing crew members, is currently investigating the incident that occurred on the Georgia set of The Pickup. In a statement to Variety on Tuesday, the union stated that they have initiated an inquiry into the matter.
As of now, Murphy, Palmer, and Davidson have not provided any comments regarding the incident.
The plot of The Pickup is mostly a secret for now, but the script was written by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows with Tim Story as the director. The movie stars Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, and Pete Davidson, along with Andrew Dice Clay, Eva Longoria, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Jack Kesy, and Marshawn Lynch.
