The initial trailer for Beverly Hills Cop 4 features Eddie Murphy reprising his role as Axel Foley, and fans are all in agreement: they're pleasantly surprised at how good it looks. Murphy initially portrayed the fast-talking, sharp-shooting detective in the 1984 hit comedy Beverly Hills Cop, which not only became the top-grossing film of the year but also catapulted the young comedian into his own successful franchise.
After returning for two sequels - one directed by Tony Scott that was arguably even better than the original, and a widely maligned sequel that failed with critics and fans, causing further entries to be stopped - it has been nearly 20 years since the announcement of a fourth movie in the series. Set to hit Netflix in 2024, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley has just released its first trailer, much to the pleasant surprise of fans after the long wait.

You can check out the first trailer for Beverly Hills Cop 4 below:
"I almost have to admire you... still out here on the streets, always in the thick of the action. It's incredible how it doesn't seem to faze you," says Kevin Bacon, presumably in the role of a tough and exasperated chief dealing with a rebellious adult, similar to Ed Harris in Top Gun: Maverick.
Then the synthesizer riff kicks in as Murphy's character, Axel, emerges from behind a car after taking down another criminal. The teaser trailer provides a brief glimpse of the storyline and showcases Foley wreaking havoc in modern-day LA, concluding with a classic shot of Murphy, Judge Reinhold, and John Hashton in the back of a police car.
Following such a disappointing third installment and Murphy’s lackluster revival of Coming to America, the trailer for the upcoming movie has left people pleasantly surprised. The star appears to be back in top form and the trailer promises plenty of practical action.
"I have to admit, I'm impressed by how good this looks," one user tweeted. "They really pulled it off. The trailer is great even if it just had Foley, Taggart, and Rosewood in the car. Besides the Netflix style, there seems to be a lot of practical effects, stunts, and some great jokes. Count me in," a second user posted.
"Eddie Murphy's still got it! This trailer really captured the nostalgia of Beverly Hills Cop while giving it a fresh, modern twist that I enjoyed. Murphy's delivery at the end of the trailer is truly on point," commented a third viewer.
The official synopsis reveals that Detective Axel Foley (Murphy) is once again on the case in Beverly Hills. When his daughter's life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old friends Billy Rosewood (Reinhold) and John Taggart (Ashton) to uncover a conspiracy and turn up the heat.
Director Mark Molloy brings us this upcoming film with a screenplay by Will Beall, and Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten from The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Eddie is an amazing artist who can excel in both drama and comedy. He praised Eddie's portrayal of Axel Foley, and expressed excitement about the character's return, noting that while Foley has gained wisdom over the years, he still maintains the same street-smart charisma. As a hard fan of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, I am thrilled to see Eddie Murphy return as Axel Foley in the upcoming fourth installment. The trailer looks incredible, and it's clear that Murphy is still in top form. The action sequences look exciting, and the jokes seem to be on point. I can't wait to see what Foley and his crew get up to this time around.
I'm also glad to see that the film will feature some of the original cast members, including Judge Reinhold and John Ashton. These actors were a big part of what made the first three films so successful, and it's great to see them back together again. Overall, I'm very excited about Beverly Hills Cop 4 and I can't wait to see it when it hits Netflix in 2024.
