At the end of Egypt's World Cup qualifier against Sierra Leone, Mohamed Salah was accompanied off the field by individuals wearing military attire. This came after the Liverpool star was targeted by pitch invaders on Sunday. During the 89th minute of the match, with Egypt leading 2-0, videos circulating on social media captured stewards wearing high-visibility yellow jackets rushing onto the pitch and apprehending a pitch invader near Salah's location.

Stewards could then be seen throwing punches at the perpetrator on the floor, before guiding him off the pitch at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, Liberia.

Despite the occurrence, the composed 31-year-old Salah maintained his composure and exhibited a tranquil demeanor while leaving the pitch.

CNN contacted the Confederation of African Football, FIFA, the Egyptian FA, and the Sierra Leone soccer federation for comment but has not received a response yet. Salah has not addressed the pitch invasion on social media. However, on Monday, he shared an Instagram post featuring a young mascot looking up in admiration of him before the game began.

Sierra Leone finished the match with nine men after receiving two red cards, making the game quite eventful. Meanwhile, Trézéguet's double secured Egypt's 2-0 victory, maintaining their impressive start to the qualifying campaign.

Sitting undefeated at the pinnacle of Group A following two matches, it had previously delivered a resounding 6-0 victory over Djibouti last Thursday.

Salah will soon make his way back to Liverpool, eagerly anticipating the highly anticipated Premier League clash against Manchester City on Saturday.

CNN reached out to Liverpool for comment on the incident but had not received a response by time of publication.
