An MLB investigation revealed that while Marcano was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates and on the injured list, he placed a total of 387 baseball bets. Out of these bets, 231 were related to MLB games. In total, he wagered over $150,000 on baseball, with $87,319 of that amount being placed on MLB-related bets.

The investigation also uncovered that 25 of Marcano's bets were placed on Pirates games while he was part of the Major League club.

The MLB probe discovered that Marcano mostly placed bets on whether the Pirates or their opponent would win the game, or on the total number of runs scored in the game.

According to the MLB investigation, there is no proof to indicate that any baseball game outcomes Marcano bet on were affected, influenced, or manipulated in any way. Marcano also denies any involvement in such actions.

Four other players have been banned for one year for betting on baseball games while in the minor leagues. These players include Oakland Athletics pitcher Michael Kelly, Padres minor league pitcher Jay Groome, Philadelphia Phillies minor league infielder José Rodríguez, and Arizona Diamondbacks minor league pitcher Andrew Saalfrank.

The MLB confirmed that all players have accepted their discipline and are not appealing.

As per MLB regulations, if a player is caught betting on games not involving their team, they face a one-year suspension. However, if a player is found gambling on their own team's games, they will be banned for life.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred emphasized the importance of enforcing the rules and policies on gambling conduct in Major League Baseball. Protecting the integrity of the games for the fans is the top priority.

For over a hundred years, there has been a strict prohibition against betting on MLB games for those involved in the sport. This principle is fundamental and players have a responsibility to avoid certain behaviors that may be legal for others.

"Manfred mentioned that ever since the Supreme Court ruling allowed sports betting to be legalized, MLB has been collaborating with licensed sports betting operators and third parties. This partnership aims to enhance integrity through the transparency offered by a regulated sports betting system."

"MLB is committed to investing significantly in integrity monitoring, educational programs, and awareness campaigns. The ultimate goal is to uphold the essential rule of fair play in our beloved game."

Oakland pitcher Kelly placed 10 bets on nine MLB games, totaling $99.22. He did not play in any of the games he bet on, and he did not bet on his own team.

The A’s expressed disappointment upon learning about Kelly’s betting violations in a statement.

The A's stated that they cannot provide details about the violation, but it happened before Michael became part of the organization. They expressed full support for MLB's sports betting policy and the importance of following all aspects of Rule 21.

The team also mentioned their commitment to educating everyone in the organization about their responsibilities under the policy.

The latest betting scandal has cast a dark shadow over Major League Baseball, leaving many fans disillusioned and questioning the integrity of the sport. Tucupita Marcano's lifetime ban serves as a stark reminder of the strict consequences for engaging in such activities while involved in the game. However, the fact that four other players received relatively minor one-year suspensions for similar offenses raises questions about the fairness and consistency of the punishments.

It is crucial for MLB to enforce its betting rules strictly to maintain a level playing field and safeguard the integrity of its competitions. The penalties should reflect the severity of the offenses and ensure that players understand the gravity of their actions. Additionally, the league must continue to invest in educational programs and awareness campaigns to reinforce the importance of adhering to these rules. This will help to protect the sport from future scandals and restore the fans' trust in the fairness of its games.
