Mindy Kaling took to Instagram on Saturday, December 16 to share a special moment in celebration of her daughter Katherine's 6th birthday. "How are you 6 years old, Kit?!" Kaling, 44, wrote, reminiscing about bringing her newborn daughter home from Cedars. "I remember when you were a newborn and I took you home from Cedars and you looked at me like 'Does this lady even know what she's doing?' And I didn't!"
She added, "But now that you're 6, every day you bring me immense joy. Just recently, you've been loving shout-singing @aliciakeys' 'THIS. GIRL. IS. ON. FIYYYAAHHH!!' You are on fire. I adore you." In addition to sharing several snaps of Kit enjoying a day at Disneyland with her brother Spencer, 3, Kaling also posted an adorable audio clip of her daughter passionately singing to Alicia Keys' hit song "Girl on Fire." She also shared the clip on her Instagram Story, captioning it with "Kit channeling her inner @aliciakeys."
"Sing it, Kit! We adore you!" exclaimed Reese Witherspoon in her comment on the post.
The Office actress welcomed her daughter in December 2017 and has not revealed the identity of Kit's father. "I feel that until I discuss this with my daughter, I won't be discussing it with anyone else," she told The New York Times in 2019. (Kaling has also not publicly confirmed her son’s father’s identity.)

However, she has shared that their godfather is none other than her former costar B.J. Novak. The two dated on and off from 2004 to 2007 and have remained close friends since ending their romantic relationship.
Kaling revealed in an exclusive interview with We in December 2019 that, "He comes over at least once or twice a week to just hang out with my daughter. When he does that, I can go take a shower or go work out... He's great."

While Kaling has always wanted to be a mom, she recently opened up about how her mother’s death pushed her to have kids.
"I feel fortunate that alongside my wish to find a partner, I also felt a strong desire to have children," Kaling shared on the iHeartPodcast "Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi" in September. "This feeling intensified after my mother passed away. I didn't want to be alone on my deathbed...I want to have children and grandchildren by my side."
