Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Loki season 2, episode 1
Summary
The introduction of Ouroborus in season 2 of Loki brings forth a significant character possessing an unblemished memory, setting him apart from the other TVA agents whose minds were erased.
Serving as the chief engineer of the Repairs and Advancement department within the TVA, Ouroborus assumes a critical position within the organization, implying his potential awareness of its true intentions.
In the upcoming episodes of Loki season 2, Ouroborus's memory becomes crucial as he aids Loki and Mobius in rescuing the TVA from destruction, including the search for Victor Timely. The premiere episode unveils an intriguing mystery centered around the enigmatic Ouroborus (portrayed by Ke Huy Quan). Referred to as O.B., he stands out amongst his colleagues in the Repairs and Advancement department due to his fully preserved memory. This raises curiosity about He Who Remains' decision to allow Ouroborus to retain his memories.
He Who Remains Not Wiping OB's Memory Hints At Ouroboros' Importance
: The finale of Loki season 1 unveiled He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) as the genuine creator of the TVA. His motive behind establishing the organization was to safeguard the Sacred Timeline, ensuring the nonexistence of his variants like Kang. Numerous fictional elements were employed to maintain the compliance of TVA agents, such as the Time-Keepers. Additionally, it has been disclosed that agents like Mobius (Owen Wilson) and many others had their memories erased, preventing them from recollecting their past lives as variants and eliminating any doubts regarding the true purpose of the TVA. However, the first episode of Loki season 2 implies that O.B. never underwent memory alteration. As the sole engineer in the TVA's Repairs and Advancement department, Ouroboros plays a crucial role within the Time Variance Authority. The premiere of Loki season 2 confirms his authority over all technological aspects and internal mechanisms of the organization. In fact, he is credited with composing the entire TVA guidebook. Despite Agent Mobius' struggle to recollect their shared history and O.B.'s name, which can be attributed to the memory erasure performed by He Who Remains, Ouroboros has no difficulty recalling their past interactions. This includes their conversations with Loki following the latter's time-jump into the distant days of the TVA. It is evident that O.B. never underwent a memory wipe imposed by He Who Remains.
What OB's Memory Could Mean For Loki Season 2
It is only logical to conclude that Ouroboros has always played a vital role in the TVA's operations, making it highly unlikely for him to undergo mind-wiping. Without him, the entire organization would seemingly crumble. While the full extent of his knowledge is yet to be revealed, it is conceivable that O.B. might have been aware of He Who Remains' involvement in the creation of the TVA. Despite his innocent demeanor, it is entirely possible that O.B. had been aware of the true purpose of the Time Variance Authority and the reality about his fellow agents all along.
With the multiverse rapidly expanding, the TVA faces the imminent threat of destruction. To prevent the Time Variance Authority's Time Loom from overwhelming with the surge of raw temporal energy, O.B. might guide Loki and Mobius towards Victor Timely, a confirmed Kang variant who is expected to emerge. Operating as a time travel inventor delivering lectures in 1901, Timely could potentially aid O.B. in stabilizing the Time Loom as a replacement for the now-absent He Who Remains. Undoubtedly, the intact memory of O.B. will significantly influence the events unfolding in the upcoming season of Loki.
