Summary
A fan-made video imagines Robert Pattinson's Batman appearing in The Flash movie, instead of George Clooney's cameo, highlighting the unresolved timeline.
The underperformance of The Flash movie in terms of finances casts doubt on the prospect of a sequel and creates uncertainty about the future of the DCEU.
To ensure the success of the DC Universe, James Gunn and Peter Safran, as leaders, will have to devise a fresh strategy to incorporate The Flash and effectively engage with viewers.
In a new fan video, Robert Pattinson's Batman makes an appearance at the end of The Flash movie instead of George Clooney. Despite being highly anticipated and described by Warner Bros. executives as the "best superhero movie" ever, The Flash turned out to be a major financial failure in 2023. Even with the inclusion of Michael Keaton's Batman in the multiverse adventure, it was not enough to make the Scarlet Speedster's standalone film a box office hit.
Although Barry Allen primarily worked with Keaton's Batman in The Flash, the movie concludes with a surprise cameo from Clooney, marking his return as Bruce Wayne for the first time since Batman & Robin in 1997. However, despite Barry's efforts to restore the past, the presence of Clooney's character suggests that the present timeline in the DCEU is not fully corrected.
Why The Flash Movie's Cliffhanger Will Never Get Resolved
However, the entire scenario could have taken a completely divergent turn if an alternate depiction of Batman appeared in the cliffhanger of The Flash. Illustrated by @FixGoods, Barry Allen portrayed by Ezra Miller exhibits his amusing response when confronted by Bruce, portrayed by Pattinson, disembarking from the vehicle instead of Clooney. Nonetheless, his realization that the timeline remained partially unaltered remains unchanged, resulting in an equally comical reaction.
Despite the amusing addition of Clooney's cameo in The Flash, it unfortunately caused confusion regarding the future of The Flash in cinema. With a new DC Universe on the horizon, the DCEU was left open-ended without a proper conclusion. It is unlikely that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will provide any resolution to this franchise. Leaving The Flash with Barry stuck alongside a different Batman means that a satisfactory resolution is now unattainable.
With the underwhelming box office performance of The Flash, it is doubtful that a sequel, The Flash 2, will be made in the new DC Universe. It seems that the only possible resolution to The Flash's cliffhanger would be if the story continues in comic book format, like they did before the movie was released. However, it is highly unlikely that DC Comics would see any financial benefit from this, considering The Flash's lackluster results.
It will be intriguing to see how The Flash is handled under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran in the DC Universe. The fastest man alive is sure to be a part of DC Studios in the future. Whether they introduce a new actor to play Barry or focus on Wally West, only time will tell if the speedster will make an appearance in Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters." Hopefully, following The Flash, DC Studios will find a fresh approach to integrate the DC hero into the franchise in a way that resonates more with audiences.
