Robert Pattinson's version of Batman from The Batman movie will be crossing paths with Grant Gustin's portrayal of The Flash from the Arrowverse in a new DC multiverse video. Despite the upcoming DC Universe, the Elseworlds franchises are still ongoing in both film and television. On The CW, Superman & Lois is the last remaining Arrowverse show, and it has been renewed for a fourth season, albeit a shorter one. In the world of movies, sequels for The Batman and Joker universes are in the works, with Robert Pattinson and Joaquin Phoenix reprising their respective roles.
While The Batman universe boasts a more realistic tone compared to the DCEU, it's interesting to speculate how Batman would interact with characters possessing superhuman abilities. A fan, going by the name of Free Boredom, recently created a video showcasing a hypothetical meeting between Pattinson's Batman and Gustin's Barry Allen, also known as The Flash.
Will There Be More DC Multiverse Crossovers In DC Studios' Future?
Grant Gustin had a remarkable tenure as the Scarlet Speedster on The Flash within the Arrowverse, spanning close to a decade. Bringing the show to a close after nine successful seasons this year, Gustin's portrayal of The Flash enthralled audiences in 184 episodes. Additionally, his DC hero character actively participated in multiple Arrowverse crossovers, some of which intricately delved into the captivating concept of the multiverse. As the DCEU wraps up this year and the new DC Universe takes shape, the question arises whether DC Studios will continue to embrace crossovers within the DC multiverse. Since its introduction in The Flash season 2, the concept of the multiverse has proven to be a popular storytelling tool in Warner Bros.' live-action superhero projects. The Flash movie, despite facing financial challenges, serves as the most recent example of incorporating DC's rich live-action history.
The new DC Universe led by James Gunn is expected to prioritize building a cohesive shared universe. However, it would be surprising if DC Studios does not eventually explore the DC multiverse stories. Given the current saturation of the multiverse concept in the genre, it might be wise for DC Studios to wait a few years before delving into that territory. Once the new DC Universe is fully established, it would be exciting to see the new heroes interact with other live-action versions of various DC characters.
Although The Batman universe currently focuses on a standalone narrative without other superheroes, it would be interesting to see how director Matt Reeves handles Justice League characters. This approach would also prevent a repetition of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, which was grounded in reality and devoid of superpowers. As The Batman franchise progresses, whether through a crossover with characters like The Flash or with other avenues, it would be ideal to incorporate other superheroes into Reeves' Elseworlds franchise.
