The updated graphics in the Super Mario RPG remake have revealed a new detail about the original game, more than 27 years after its release. In a specific stage of the original Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, released in 1996, players encounter a toy box that contains dolls of Princess Peach, Metroid's Samus Aran, and the F-Type racer from Stunt Race FX. This peripheral, which was released exclusively in Japan in 1986, added a unique floppy disk feature to Nintendo's third-generation console. As a result, Diskun, also known as Mr. Disk, is a rather obscure character in Nintendo's extensive history. A comparison between the scene in the original game and its remade counterpart confirms that this cameo is not a new addition to the remake. In fact, Diskun has been present all along, but the 16-bit graphics of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars made it difficult to notice.
