The space-fantasy realm of Destiny 2 offers a wide array of unique names and titles that are specific to the game. However, a player has noticed that Diablo 4 shares many of these names that guardians come across in the Sol System. Both games have a plethora of names and activities related to loot, such as Diablo's Nightmare Dungeons and Destiny's Trials of Osiris, which opens up the possibility for name parody between the two games. Interestingly, one player has pointed out that the naming structures of the games are more alike than some players might initially realize.
Currently, Destiny 2 is in the midst of Season of the Deep, a season of content that continues the narratives of Lightfall and Season of Defiance. In this season, guardians are summoned to a recently returned Titan by Deputy Commander Sloane, who is in distress. Their mission is to protect a leviathan creature that resides in the moon's methane oceans. However, the Hive god Xivu Arath is making her presence known within the Sol System as she attempts to prevent players from uncovering what the creature knows about The Witness.
Twitter user Destiny_thememe noticed the similar naming structures of Destiny and Diablo. They pointed out that both games have gear names and player titles that are similar, such as the Gilded Deadeye title and the Arbalest gear. However, the Arbalest in Diablo 4 is a crossbow and more realistic, while Destiny 2's Arbalest is an exotic linear fusion rifle.
The biggest difference in naming comes with the use of "Drifter." In Diablo 4, it is a player title earned by successfully completing strongholds. In Destiny 2, the Drifter is the vendor for Gambit and has become a significant character in the game's story over the years.
While some players may find the naming parody unexpected, others could argue that it is not surprising considering the vast amount of content and focus on loot in each game. With the Destiny universe alone boasting approximately 10 years' worth of content spanning multiple expansions and seasons, filled with names that embrace the sci-fi and fantasy theme of the franchise, it is highly likely that this trend will continue as Diablo 4 enters its inaugural season. This new season will offer even more opportunities for players to delve into dungeons and engage in epic battles against formidable foes.
Currently, Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
