Activision, in a recent interview with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's narrative director, hinted at the possibility of continuing the story of Modern Warfare beyond the events of the third installment. The original subseries concluded with the defeat of key antagonists, Vladimir Makarov and General Shepherd, by Captain Price and Soap in Modern Warfare 2 and 3 respectively. However, their apparent survival, along with that of Shadow Company CEO Phillip Graves, in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, suggests significant implications for the game's narrative.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Brian Bloom, the game's narrative director, stated that the storyline of Modern Warfare will not be limited to this year's game. Bloom also confirmed that several character arcs have a long-term future in the series and will play a crucial role in shaping future storylines. "We typically envision character arcs as progressing in one direction, but they can also veer off track or even regress. People can evolve or devolve," Bloom explained. He also emphasized how these arcs provide abundant material for storytelling and mentioned that the team is only beginning to explore these narratives beyond Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Activision is introducing a fresh approach to experiencing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s campaign with the introduction of Open Combat Missions. These missions give players the freedom to customize their gameplay style, allowing them to choose between a more aggressive "guns blazing" approach or a stealthier "lights-out" strategy using stealth weapons. Additionally, players will have the option to freely utilize various objects, weapons, and vehicles within the mission area to accomplish their objectives. For those who prefer a traditional Call of Duty experience, these missions can also be played in the same style as older games.

In addition to the campaign, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will feature the return of 16 classic multiplayer maps from the highly regarded 2009 game, Modern Warfare 2. This includes sought-after features such as map voting and new perks. An exciting addition to the multiplayer experience is the triumphant return of the popular War mode, absent from the series since Call of Duty: WW2. Furthermore, an open-world Zombies map will be introduced, allowing players to team up with other squads to battle against the undead.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
