Contrary to recent industry rumors, a new report indicates that the rumored remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will not be limited to PlayStation. This report comes shortly after an industry insider hinted at the possibility of a revival of the Metal Gear Solid series.
For years, rumors have circulated about exclusive deals between Konami and Sony. The latest claim emerged in May, suggesting that not only is the rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 remake real, but it's also a PlayStation exclusive. However, this new report contradicts that claim.
A recent report by Insider Gaming suggests that Metal Gear Solid 3 remake might not be a PlayStation exclusive as previously believed. Anonymous sources claim that the game will also be available on PC and Xbox Series X/S, with the PC version set to be released on Steam. While the validity of these claims is yet to be confirmed, the outlet has a good track record with breaking news, accurately predicting the release date of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.
Even if the game is released across multiple platforms, there is still a chance that it could be a timed PlayStation exclusive. However, industry insiders who have weighed in on the matter predict that the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will be revealed during the next PlayStation Showcase. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, at 1pm PST.
Reports indicate that in addition to the rumored MGS3 remake, Konami may also re-release another Metal Gear Solid game in the near future. The PS1 original is considered the most feasible candidate for a remaster from a technical standpoint. While many fans are hoping for a remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, this may prove difficult at the moment.
However, if Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is indeed remade and becomes a commercial success, it could change the game. This may motivate Konami to allocate resources to remake MGS4 for modern platforms. Sources suggest that the MGS3 remake is slated for release in 2024.
