Metal Gear Fans Rejoice: Konami Considers Remaking More Games

Konami hints at future remakes of Metal Gear games following the success of MGS Delta: Snake Eater Fans may be able to revisit classic titles with modern updates

Konami has expressed its willingness to remake other titles in the Metal Gear franchise once it completes the development of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This announcement comes on the heels of the company's official confirmation of the much-anticipated remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. Fans of the series have been buoyed by the news that a significant portion of the development team is involved in the project, hoping that the remake will do justice to the original's iconic status. While it remains to be seen if this will be the case, it is clear that the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will have a significant impact on the future direction of the franchise.

According to an IGN report, Konami has expressed their eagerness to fulfill player demand for remakes of other games in the franchise, not just Metal Gear Solid 3. A spokesperson for the company stated that they are already taking steps to do so, citing the creation of Metal Gear Solid Delta as an example. While some fans may have expected the first game in the series to be remade, it was actually the origin story of Big Boss that garnered the most interest. As a result, Konami decided to start with a prequel that sets the stage for all other games in the series.

With the approach Konami is taking to revisiting the Metal Gear Solid series, and assuming that Metal Gear Solid Delta receives positive feedback from fans, it's highly possible that the company will consider remaking Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. While the game was critically acclaimed, it was limited to the PS3 due to its unique microprocessor architecture, which made it difficult to port to other platforms. This is in contrast to every other installment in the series, including the original two Metal Gear games. As a result, many fans have been calling for a remake of MGS4 for years, although it appears that Snake Eater has garnered more attention in this regard.

The likelihood of Konami revisiting MGS4 after completing the Snake Eater remake is even higher given that Guns of the Patriots is expected to be the only title missing from the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection. The first volume of the bundle, which was announced at the recent PlayStation Showcase, will include the first five games in the series, from the 1987 Metal Gear to the 2004 Snake Eater. According to previous reports, the second volume is set to cover MGS5 and spin-offs like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. This means that the fandom is likely to push for a revisit of MGS4 following the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
