What happens to Mahoraga in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17?
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17, an intense battle unfolds between Mahoraga and Sukuna. Mahoraga, also known as the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga, is a powerful shikigami from the Ten Shadows Technique. This technique is exclusive to a few members of the Zen'in Clan, and currently, Megumi Fushiguro possesses this rare and unique Cursed Technique.
Does Mahoraga die in its battle against Sukuna?
Controlling Mahoraga, an immensely powerful shinigami, presents an immense challenge. Throughout the Zen'in Clan's history, no Ten Shadow Technique users have triumphed in taming and commanding Mahoraga. As the series progresses, this also holds true for Megumi.
The Shibuya Arc in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17 showcases an electrifying clash between Mahoraga and Sukuna, making it an unquestionably exhilarating fight scene. This intense showdown stands out among the series' most gripping encounters, second only to the epic battle between Gojo and Sukuna that occurs later in the storyline.
At the start of the battle, Sukuna confronts Mahoraga, ultimately gaining insight into the authentic abilities of the shikigami and comprehending the purpose of its wheel.

Intrigued by this revelation, Sukuna activates his Domain Expansion known as the Malevolent Shrine. This powerful technique utilizes both Fillet and Dismantle Cursed Techniques to cut through anything present within the domain's predetermined range, regardless of whether it is living or non-living. However, Sukuna quickly realizes that the Divine General has adapted to his attacks, understanding that relying solely on his Domain will not be enough to overcome this formidable shikigami.
As a result, Sukuna decides to employ his fire Cursed Technique, the same one he used to defeat Jogo, known as the fire arrow (Fuuga). By utilizing this technique, Sukuna is able to instantly disintegrate Mahoraga before it has a chance to adapt. After the intense battle, all that is left of Mahoraga is its wheel, which, upon hitting the ground, transforms into a dark sludge-like substance.

After the battle, viewers are left questioning whether Mahoraga meets its demise or not. What happens to the uncontrollable and invincible Shikigami after being defeated by the King of Curses? The answer is no; Mahoraga does not meet its end in Shibuya.
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17, Sukuna discovers Mahoraga's technique and finds a way to defeat Gojo. Later in the story, the Divine General makes a comeback. In chapter 229 of the manga, Sukuna summons Mahoraga during his confrontation with Gojo, after taking over Megumi's body.
Thoughts on how Mahoraga survived the battle with Sukuna
During the confrontation between Sukuna and Gojo, Gojo's Cursed Technique Purple blasts Mahoraga off, causing the wheel to remain behind. The wheel appears to be disintegrating, which is a stark contrast to its previous battle with Sukuna. During that encounter, the wheel had transformed into a black gooey substance, possibly suggesting its return to the shadow.

Two possibilities arise from this observation: either an untamed shikigami, when exorcised by someone other than the Ten Shadows user, reverts back to the shadows, or Sukuna may have purposely only partially exorcised Mahoraga during their Shibuya battle shown in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17, recognizing its usefulness in defeating Gojo.
Therefore, although Mahoraga managed to withstand Sukuna, it can be inferred that after facing Gojo's formidable hollow purple, the shikigami will not be able to return.
Editor's P/S
As a die-hard fan of the Jujutsu Kaisen series, I was thrilled to witness the highly anticipated showdown between Mahoraga and Sukuna in season 2 episode 17. The battle lived up to my expectations, delivering breathtaking animation and intense action sequences that left me on the edge of my seat.
However, as a fan of Megumi Fushiguro, I couldn't help but feel a sense of concern for his fate. Throughout the series, Megumi has struggled to control and tame Mahoraga, the powerful shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique. Despite his efforts, he has yet to fully master its abilities. Now, with Mahoraga's defeat at the hands of Sukuna, I wonder what the future holds for Megumi.
Will he be able to regain control of Mahoraga or will the shikigami remain loyal to Sukuna? Will Megumi find a new way to utilize the Ten Shadows Technique or will he be forced to abandon it altogether? These questions萦绕在我的脑海中, and I eagerly await the upcoming episodes to find out.
