Scooby Doo and the Mystery Pups character art includes Shaggy, Scooby, and three puppies - What's Next For The Scooby-Doo Franchise?
Since its debut in 1969, there have been numerous versions of Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo. However, the future of the franchise is uncertain at the moment. The most recent installment, Scoob!, attempted to reboot the original live-action movies in animated form. Even with a star-studded cast including Mark Wahlberg, Gina Rodriguez, Zac Efron, and Amanda Seyfried, it did not reach the same level of success as its predecessors. A sequel titled Scoob! A Holiday Haunt was completed but ultimately shelved by David Zaslav before its release, despite being already finished.
Director Michael Kurinsky claims that Warner Bros. Discovery is not releasing Scoob! A Holiday Haunt for tax purposes.
In 2023, Max introduced the controversial animated adult spin-off show, Velma, featuring Mindy Kailing. Despite facing criticism from fans, season 2 is currently in the works and set to air in 2024. Additionally, Lillard and Welker were set to reprise their roles as Shaggy and Scooby in Max's Scooby-Doo And The Mystery Pups, a show targeted towards preschoolers. Originally planned for a summer 2024 release, the show was unfortunately canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Lillard is currently working on a new Scooby-Doo project that seems to have a similar premise to previous ones. He has shared that the goal is to create an immersive experience for kids where they can join Mystery Inc. on an adventure. This new approach could bring a fresh perspective to the world of Scooby-Doo and having Lillard on board might attract more viewers.
The challenge for this new project will be to compete in the competitive world of streaming platforms. Hopefully, it will not face an early cancellation like some of its predecessors.
Editor's P/S:
I am thrilled to hear that Matthew Lillard is returning to the Scooby-Doo franchise. He is an iconic voice actor who has brought Shaggy to life for decades. I am excited to see what he has in store for us with this new project. I am also hopeful that this new project will be a success and will help to revitalize the Scooby-Doo franchise.
However, I am concerned about the future of the Scooby-Doo franchise. The recent Scoob! movie was not a critical or commercial success, and the sequel was canceled. The Velma spin-off show has also been met with mixed reviews. I hope that Warner Bros. Discovery can find a way to bring the Scooby-Doo franchise back to its former glory.
