Sticky Keys is a useful feature in Windows 11 that enables users to use keyboard shortcuts with ease. However, it may not be suitable for everyone. If you have accidentally turned it on and prefer the traditional approach to shortcuts, disabling Sticky Keys is a simple task. Follow these steps to turn off Sticky Keys on your Windows 11 PC.
How to Disable Sticky Keys on Windows 11
If you struggle with pressing multiple keys simultaneously, Sticky Keys can be a helpful feature. It allows you to make your keys sticky, so they remain pressed until the next key is activated. For instance, if you want to open a file in an app, instead of pressing Windows+O simultaneously, you can press the Windows key, release it, and then press the O key.
However, if you wish to deactivate Sticky Keys and use your keyboard shortcuts as usual, you have a few options to choose from. Each method is slightly different but results in the same outcome. Here are the ways you can turn off Sticky Keys.
- Using a Keyboard Shortcut
To disable the Sticky Keys feature on your Windows 11 PC, you can use the same method as in Windows 10 by utilizing the Shift button. Simply press the Shift key five times consecutively and the feature will be turned off.
Although there won't be a confirmation message displayed on your screen, you can verify that the feature has been disabled by pressing the Windows key. You'll notice that the "Start" menu will open immediately, without needing to press any additional keys.
- Using Quick Settings
Quick Settings provides convenient shortcuts to various useful features of your Windows PC, including a shortcut for Sticky Keys. You can easily turn the Sticky Keys feature on and off using this menu.
To access Quick Settings, simply press Windows+A. Alternatively, you can open the menu by clicking on the Wi-Fi or battery icon located in your system tray.
Once the Quick Settings menu appears, select the “Accessibility” option.
In the “Accessibility” menu, disable the “Sticky Keys” option.
And your feature is now turned off.
- Using Settings
Enabling and disabling Sticky Keys in Windows can be done easily using the Settings app.
To access it, simply press Windows+i to open Settings. From there, click on “Accessibility” in the left sidebar and select “Keyboard” on the right pane.
Toggle off the "Sticky Keys" option on the "Keyboard" page. Windows 11's Control Panel houses the Sticky Keys feature, giving you the ability to enable or disable it.
- Using Control Panel
Open the Control Panel on your PC to access it. You can do this by finding the "Control Panel" option in the "Start" menu and selecting it from the search results. Once inside the Control Panel, navigate to the "Ease of Access" section. From there, select the option to "Change How Your Keyboard Works."
Disable the “Turn On Sticky Keys” option. Then, at the bottom, select “Apply” followed by “OK.”
Sticky Keys is now disabled on your PC.
- Using Registry Editor
If you're still unable to disable Sticky Keys through the methods mentioned earlier, you can try using the Registry Editor method. However, we advise this as a last resort after attempting the previous solutions.
To use this method, start by opening the "Run" dialog box using the Windows+R shortcut. Alternatively, you can access it by searching for "Run" in the Start menu and selecting the utility from the search results.
Once the "Run" box appears, type in the following command and press Enter. You will then see a "User Account Control" prompt. Select "Yes" to proceed and open the Registry Editor.
regedit
In Registry Editor, select the address bar at the top and enter the following, then press Enter.
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\StickyKeys
Double-click the “Flags” entry located on the right pane.
Next, navigate to the “Edit String” box and click on the “Value Data” field. Enter the value “506” and click “OK.”
Close Registry Editor and reboot your PC. Sticky Keys is now disabled on your computer.
And those are some of the ways to turn off Sticky Keys on your Windows 11-enabled PC. Enjoy!
