In the course of their exploration of Baldur's Gate 3's first act, players may come across their party members discussing a masterwork weapon in the Blighted Village near the Druids' grove. This conversation holds greater significance, as there is indeed a yet-to-be-crafted masterwork weapon in the village.
Crafting this enigmatic weapon is within the players' reach. However, it requires time and the acquisition of specific items in order to succeed. Moreover, players must visit specific locations for this endeavor. Here's a guide on completing the masterwork weapon in Baldur's Gate 3.
Finishing the Masterwork Weapon
This is a side quest that becomes available after reading Highcliff's Journal, a book found in one of the ruined houses in the Blighted Village. The specific house is the one closest to the sleeping Bugbear near the barn. To make finding the book easier, PC players can highlight all loot in the area by pressing ALT.
The journal explains that the weapon is missing a crucial ingredient: the bark of a Sussur tree. Unfortunately, the only way to obtain it is by venturing into the Underdark, a vast cave system beneath the Sword Coast. There are multiple routes to reach the Underdark, but it is highly recommended to take the path through the Goblin Camp.
The best way to venture into the mysterious Underdark is by gathering a group of skilled adventurers who have reached Level 4. Upon entering this treacherous realm, navigate towards the western section of the map, where an awe-inspiring sight awaits: a colossal Sussur tree, distinguished by its colossal roots and the ethereal blue radiance that envelops its surroundings.
In this location, there are a few Hook Horrors present. It is crucial to eliminate one quickly as it will summon reinforcements. Overcome these creatures and progress up the branches of the tree. Proceed to the center of the tree where a section of the bark can be collected. Gather it and return to the Blighted Village.
Upon arriving at the blacksmith's house, unleash a fire attack to burn the thick webs concealing the hole in the floor. Subsequently, jump down into the basement. Inside, there is a chest rigged with traps that contains Highcliff's Blueprints. Retrieve the blueprints and interact with the furnace on the opposite side of the room to ignite it. Utilize the bellows to intensify the flames.
To open a combination window, interact with the furnace once more. Insert the Sussur bark into the empty slot and press Combine to change the flames to a blue hue. Next, place a common greatsword, sickle, or dagger into the slot and forge the weapon. By doing this, you will obtain a Sussur-infused version of the weapon that was thrown into the blue flames, which will have an Enchantment level of +1 and the innate ability to Silence targets upon successful hits.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available on PC, and a PS5 version will be released soon.
