In Pikmin 4, there exist nine distinct types of Pikmin, each possessing unique strengths and weaknesses. Initially, players will only have Red Pikmin at their disposal, but as they embark on their journey to explore the unfamiliar and potentially perilous planet where Olimar and the Rescue Corps are stranded, they will gradually unlock additional types.
While all Pikmin types serve their purpose, Yellow Pikmin hold significant importance as they enable access to specific areas of the map and retrieve hard-to-reach Treasures. Fortunately, those eager to obtain Yellow Pikmin in Pikmin 4 need not wait excessively since it is possible to uncover them as early as the second day, provided players are aware of their location.
How to Get Yellow Pikmin in Pikmin 4
The opportunity to unlock Yellow Pikmin arises in the Sun-Speckled Terrace, the initial area accessible to players upon completing the game's prologue. These Yellow Pikmin can be discovered in the Crackling Cauldron Sublevel, whose entrance is located near the Rugged Scaffold base. However, before descending into it, players must ensure their Pikmin unearth the entrance. Alternatively, players have the option to enlist Oatchi's digging prowess for a swifter process.
How to Get the Yellow Pikmin Onion in Sun-Speckled Terrace
Upon entering the Crackling Cauldron, players should proceed along the pathway until they spot a pipe protruding from the left wall. Within this pipe, lying on the ground, are five Yellow Pikmin eagerly awaiting retrieval. Additionally, throughout the rest of the area, several more Yellow Pikmin can be found scattered about. Once players resurface, these Yellow Pikmin can be utilized to dismantle the electric fence located near the entrance to the Creaking Cauldron, granting access to the third base in that area.
Beyond this point, players should search for a nearby bag that can be crushed with the help of ten or more Pikmin. Concealed behind this bag is the initial of the two Yellow Onions (the other one can be found in the Blossoming Arcadia region). Carrying this back to the base will cause it to combine with the existing onion, enabling players to cultivate their own colony of Yellow Pikmin. Apart from having the ability to withstand electricity and destroy electric gates, these Yellow Pikmin possess exceptional digging skills and are lighter than their counterparts. Exploiting this advantage, players can catapult them to greater heights compared to Red or Blue Pikmin, thereby granting access to otherwise unreachable treasures and areas.
Pikmin 4 is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
