Master the Bus Depot Challenge in The Last of Us Part 1 - Chapter 10 Walkthrough

Joel and Ellie have endured a grueling journey, facing unimaginable challenges along the way. Their quest is nearly complete as they reach Salt Lake City, the stronghold of the Fireflies. However, their arrival does not signal the end of their trials. Salt Lake City is rife with hidden mysteries and lurking enemies. In the Bus Depot chapter, the iconic duo must navigate treacherous puzzles and engage in intense combat. Amidst the danger, there are also moments of tenderness and affection that have become legendary in The Last of Us.

Highway Exit

When players assume the role of Joel, they may notice Ellie's uncharacteristic silence. As they proceed, Joel discusses the idea of teaching Ellie how to play the guitar. At this point, players have the option to engage in a conversation with Ellie, further deepening their bond.

There will be an RV up ahead with an open door. Go inside to find an artifact and some supplies.

When Joel exits, Ellie will remark about a dream she had about flying. Joel can have an optional conversation with her about the dream.

Walk down the ramp and down the street. Turn left and walk around a blue pickup truck to find a firefly pendant.

Continue walking along the street until you reach its end, where you'll come across a chaotic scene. A cluster of cars and a bus have collided, creating a wreckage that now intertwines with a fence. Utilize the available cars as a means to ascend onto the bus, and from there, carefully leap down to the opposite side of the barrier.

To the left, the bus station will have its doors wide open. Go inside and search around for supplies. In a suitcase to the left side of the room will be an artifact.

To the right side of the room, a ladder will be hanging over the ledge. Walk up to it and press the triangle button to have Joel point it out.

Turn around to find Ellie sitting down and have an optional conversation with her.

To assist Ellie in climbing onto the ledge, direct your attention back towards it and utilize the triangle button. It's important to note that Ellie may not be able to make it across on her initial attempt. Once Ellie has made her way across, repeat the action of pressing the triangle button in order to successfully hoist her up onto the ledge. As Ellie attempts to retrieve the ladder, she becomes distracted and inadvertently drops it to Joel's level. To remedy the situation, press the triangle button once again to collect the ladder and position it back in its rightful place.

Continue accompanying Ellie as you explore the building together. After a while, Joel and Ellie stumble upon a lovely surprise—an amiable giraffe leisurely roaming around in an open section of the structure. Approach the giraffe and gently press the triangle button to shower it with affection.

Continue accompanying Ellie as she ascends the stairs and ventures outside, where a majestic procession of giraffes will gracefully pass by. Approach Ellie to engage in an optional conversation with her. Once completed, gently nudge the right thumbstick to prompt Joel to part ways and saunter off. Rotate around and proceed towards the door situated on the right. Effortlessly press the triangle button to initiate the subsequent cutscene.

Following the conclusion of the cutscene, trail behind Ellie as she descends the stairs. Within the expansive main area of the edifice, veer towards the right side and venture into the lavatory designated for gentlemen to unearth a hidden gem - a comic.

Exit the bathroom and thoroughly explore the main room in order to acquire essential supplies. Afterwards, join Ellie as she leads the way outside. Soon after stepping into an area designated for triage, a profound conversation about Sarah will unfold between the two companions. While engaging in this heartfelt exchange, make sure to scavenge the triage for any additional supplies that may be of use. Notably, within the second generously-sized tent located on the left-hand side, players will stumble upon a valuable discovery - level 5 tools.

In the tent on the far-right of the triage will be an artifact and a workbench.

At the far-left of the triage, a firefly pendant will be hanging from a lightpost. Shoot at it or throw a brick or bottle at it to knock it down.

When done, head towards the bus at the end of the triage.

Ellie intercepts Joel before he can proceed, halting his progress. Once he turns around, he has the opportunity to engage in a meaningful exchange with her. During this exchange, Ellie presents Joel with a truly priceless relic: a photograph capturing Joel's cherished moments with Sarah.

Upon turning around, Joel proceeds onward by traversing through the bus. Reaching the opposite end of the bus, he ascends and passes through the open window. Continuing in this direction, he veers left and embarks on the path leading towards the tunnel.

On the other side of the bus, go around to find a firefly pendant on the ground.

Then, turn around to head into the...

Underground Tunnel

Within the depths of the tunnel, proceed up the narrow walkway on the right and overcome the obstacle of the white truck. As Joel descends on the opposite side, the distant echoes of Infected can be heard. Brace yourself, for this will mark the final intense encounter with these adversaries, and it is not to be taken lightly. In order to preserve valuable resources, discreetly eliminate as many Infected as possible through cunning stealth tactics. Remain in a crouched position and cautiously advance forward.

Walk around the white structure to find a single runner; silently grab him and kill him.

To the right, another runner will be standing near an RV. Silently kill him.

A bloater will be meandering about; it's advisable to disregard him momentarily, as attempting to eliminate him will attract excessive scrutiny. Instead, eliminate the clicker who will also be wandering nearby.

Up to the left corner of the area, take out the runner.

Move forward beyond the bus. A clicker will be wandering around nearby; kill him.

In close proximity to the truck wreckage, there will be a runner that needs to be eliminated. Additionally, there is another clicker in the vicinity.

Heading towards the right side of the highway, there will be a doorway that grants access to a narrow corridor. While this area contains several valuable supplies, it is important to exercise caution as three runners are also present.

Traverse the hallway and make a left turn through the doorway. As you enter the next area, be prepared to encounter several clickers and bloaters. To avoid the bloaters, it is advisable to initially stick to the right side of the hallway. Keep an eye out for a passing clicker and eliminate it. Additionally, take out the runner who is loitering near the container. On the platform to the right, you will discover a plentiful supply of resources.

On the left side of the highway, there is a runner standing near a car while two bloaters linger about. Additionally, a sleeping clicker can be found on the side platform. Quietly maneuver towards them and eliminate the runner before proceeding to the platform and taking out the clicker.

At this stage, don't hesitate to fully commit to using the bloaters as your primary weapons. Prioritize the utilization of Joel's flamethrower, shotgun, and molotov cocktails. Furthermore, be prepared for any lingering Infected to be attracted by the commotion and launch attacks of their own. Once the confrontation subsides, redirect your attention and ascend onto the roof of a nearby truck to uncover a valuable training manual.

Turn your attention back to the road, only to come across yet another truck obstructing the way forward. Approach the truck and swiftly hit the triangle button to activate an action that propels Ellie onto its roof. From there, she will lower a crate for Joel to use as a means of climbing up onto the truck. Take advantage of this crate to ascend the truck alongside Ellie.

Jump down to the other side. Get into the water and swim up to the truck. Then dive under and swim underneath to the other side of the truck.

On the opposite side, make your way onto the land and towards the truck. Retrieve the ladder located at the front of the truck and transport it over to where Ellie is positioned. Engage the triangle button to carefully position the ladder on the ground, enabling Ellie to ascend it.

Turn around and climb onto the vents. Walk to the end to find a comic.

Jump into the water and swim to the platform located on the opposite side of the tunnel. Upon reaching the platform, Joel discovers that the door is locked, presenting a challenge for getting Ellie inside. Before attempting to solve this dilemma, Joel notices a clicker lying on the ground near the right side of the room. Inside the fenced wall, various openings are visible. He carefully selects one of the openings and swiftly eliminates the clicker using precise aim, ensuring the safety of Ellie before allowing her inside.

Located just above the fenced wall is a quaint little opening, adorned with a vibrant yellow bar. By simply pressing the triangle button, you can propel Ellie into the room ahead. In a matter of moments, she will graciously unlock the door to allow Joel access. Inside this room, a treasure trove of essential supplies awaits, alongside advanced level 6 tools. Moreover, a conveniently positioned workbench stands ready to assist your crafting needs.

This is the final workbench in the game. Choose upgrades wisely, but don't be afraid to use up as many tools as possible.

Walk forward into the adjacent room and make a left turn. Lower your body and move in a crouched position to crawl beneath the damaged pipes. As you enter the following room, immerse yourself in the water and descend beneath the surface. Navigate through the doorway located on the back wall by swimming.

Make a left turn and swim downwards until you reach the next room. Once there, resurface and step onto the platform. Next, climb the concrete block and ascend onto the vent. Use the vent to return to the main room.

To advance in the main room, simply press the triangle button to propel the pallette into the water. Subsequently, immerse yourself in the water and ensure that Ellie also jumps onto the pallette. Once this is accomplished, carefully navigate the pallette towards the metal platform located nearest to the entrance, where the hospital is prominently displayed.

Begin by ascending the sturdy metal platform where Joel and Ellie first accessed the room. Witness Ellie's helpfulness as she pushes the ladder downward. As Joel embarks on his climb, the ladder unexpectedly detaches from the wall. Quick reflexes are required to grasp the ladder by pressing the triangle button. Once secured, transport the ladder to the opposite side of the platform and carefully position it against the wall by pressing the triangle button once more.

Ascend the ladder to the second floor once more. Next, seize the ladder and relocate it to the metal platform situated on the right. Descend from the ladder and grip it securely. Traverse to the edge and gently lay it down, thereby forming a bridge for Joel to traverse to the opposite side.

Follow Ellie as she ascends the stairs. Once at the top of the platform, Joel and Ellie will encounter another tunnel, through which rushing water flows. Begin by climbing onto the white truck and traversing it. Then, follow the linear path that leads from one car to another in order to successfully cross the area. Eventually, Joel and Ellie will leap onto a bus, which will be carried by the current and slide across the water. As soon as this happens, Ellie will promptly jump onto a sturdy metal platform. Quickly make your way up to Ellie.

Before Joel attempts to climb up, he finds himself unexpectedly plummeting through a shattered window and landing inside the bus. The forceful current relentlessly propels him deeper into the bus, leaving him disoriented and vulnerable. In order to overcome this perilous situation, the player must act swiftly by pressing the triangle button to grasp onto a nearby handle and exert their strength to forge ahead. However, without the player's quick thinking and action, all efforts would be in vain.

Eventually, Joel will be pushed towards the rear of the bus by the strong current. Ellie, on the other hand, will leap onto the bus doors above and make an effort to unlock them. To assist Ellie in her task, press and hold the triangle button to help her open the door.

The bus is on the verge of tipping over and plunging into the water. Make your way inside through the doors and, despite the strong current, manage to swim with Joel for a short distance. Upon regaining control of Joel, he discovers Ellie drifting lifelessly in the water. Swim towards Ellie and extend your hand to capture her, then resurface, with both Joel and Ellie in tow.
