Activision has been teasing fans with game-related text messages through a phone number, building anticipation for Modern Warfare 3. Although the audio message received by texting "Zombies" to the number does not provide concrete confirmation, it strongly suggests that the game will feature a Zombies mode.
Zombies may make a comeback in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, as hinted by a mysterious phone number discovered in the recent trailer. The popular Zombies game mode, which has been a staple of the Call of Duty franchise for over a decade, has always been separate from the Modern Warfare series. However, there are suggestions that this might change with the possibility of Zombies being introduced as a game mode leading up to the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in November.
Currently, there is limited official information available about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Activision has only confirmed in the last two weeks that the upcoming installment in the Call of Duty series will be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and will feature the infamous antagonist Makarov. To learn more, an official reveal event is scheduled for August 17 in Call of Duty: Warzone. In the meantime, Activision has been teasing fans with intriguing hints without providing any confirmations.
Activision is generating excitement for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by using a mysterious phone number. Instead of displaying the number, it is briefly shown and then viewers are instructed to text it. Upon agreeing to receive texts, fans of Call of Duty receive a series of messages that hint at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 without any prompting. However, fans have discovered that the number also responds to specific keywords, such as "Zombies."
If you text the word "Zombies" to the Call of Duty phone number, you will receive an audio file in return. Although the name of the audio file may not make sense, the content itself will be familiar to players of the Zombies mode. The audio file consists of the haunting growl and scream of a zombie.
The audio file does not serve as an official confirmation of Zombies returning to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It may simply be a playful response or an Easter egg. However, considering that all other discovered text prompts for the Modern Warfare 3 phone number are directly tied to the new game, it is likely that the Zombies tease is also related. Activision should be aware that teasing fans about the presence of Zombies mode in the game, if it does not actually exist, is not advisable.
Other prompts that have elicited responses from the phone number include "Red Dot," which suggests the return of the classic Call of Duty mini-map displaying unsuppressed gunfire through red dots, as well as the names of maps, including all 16 original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 maps. More information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected to be released tomorrow, and in the following days and weeks. Hopefully, Zombies mode will be one of the upcoming announcements.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases November 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
