Massiel Taveras Shoves Security Guard Amidst Clash with Kelly Rowland at Cannes Film Festival

Massiel Taveras caused a commotion at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival by pushing a security guard on the red carpet.

During the event on Wednesday, May 22, Taveras was caught in a tense situation with the same usher who had a dispute with Kelly Rowland just days earlier. Social media footage captured the moment when the former Miss Dominican Republic struggled to manage the 15-foot train of her Giannina Azar dress, adorned with a striking portrait of Jesus wearing a crown of thorns.

In the video, Taveras can be seen telling a group of security guards surrounding her to back off. Among them was a female usher blocking the view of Taveras’ dress with her arm as the actress posed on the famed stairs leading into The Palais des Festivals. As she was entering the theater, Taveras shoved the female security guard who had placed an arm around the actress’s shoulder to usher her inside.

Rowland, 43, had a similar interaction with seemingly the same female security guard on the red carpet on Tuesday, May 21, while at the premiere of the French-Italian film Marcello Mio. In footage shared via X, Rowland was guided by security staff to ascend the staircase into the venue.

The security guard put a hand on Rowland's back and gave her more instructions. However, things got tense as the singer seemed to scold the guard with a finger pointed at her face.

Rowland kept going up the stairs but then turned back to have another heated exchange with the staff member. By this time, a few more security guards had come to calm down the situation.

Rowland confirmed to the Associated Press on Thursday, May 23 that both she and the woman are aware of what took place. "I have my limits and I stick to them, that's all there is to it."

Kelly Rowland attended the premiere and noticed that other women who looked different from her were not treated the same way. Despite feeling pressured to leave the red carpet, she stood her ground and refused to be pushed off.

Her colleagues at Cannes have reportedly come to the defense of the unnamed security guard. According to an anonymous festival staff member, she was working as an usher under a lot of pressure to keep people moving on the red carpet to prevent crowds from building up.

The staffer mentioned that there was no pushing, shoving, or scolding involved in her duties. The main priorities were ensuring security and safety, as well as adhering to strict timetables set based on contracts. This meant even celebrities had to follow the rules in place.
